Triton owner's Tournament South ???

Triton owner's Tournament South ??? - 06/02/16 01:06 AM

Triton put on a owners on Lake Fork last year. The turnout was not very big due to the lack of promotion of the event. I contacted Triton about an owners tournament this year. Triton says they're talking about this internally but have not set a date. Triton has talked about moving it to a different Lake I encourage them to stay on Fork and make it a big bass tournament rather than heavy Stringer. Either way if they stay on Lake Fork or move they need encouragement to make this an annual event. Triton said they've had a lot of calls about it this year I think they need some more. If you Triton owners have interest in an annual TOT South event it would be a good idea to contact Triton and let them know.

They need to have it on Travis!!!! Less hazards, lots of water and in the fall has the potential for some awesome bags!

I'll send them an email. I wanted to fish it bad, but it was on my wife's birthday weekend. I've got a first-year Triton (1997) that we bought new and it's been a fantastic boat. Would have loved to fish it and was looking forward to seeing a date this year. I agree there was zero promotion of it last year and they need to do better if they want a decent turnout. If they want to donate this region to Skeeter and Ranger, then I guess they can continue to ignore having a serious owners tournament.

I think one of the problems they may have returning to Fork is the fact that they let guides fish it and win as well.

The other problem is that the date they had in 2015 has been taken by another tournament and the one after that is Mad Dog and then Sealy (MacDonalds).

Another problem I see at Lake Fork is that tournaments from out of state do not look to see who they are bumping. There are free weekends but they only are considerate of their own schedules.

For instance the V & M was on the same date as the Lake Fork Open (old Bullet) which has been around for quite a while. The V & M folks knew of the conflict very early this year but the folks in Florida picked the date. The week before there were no big tournaments.

I'm fork guy because its my home and its easy for me. Like I said earlier, I don't care where they have it as long as they make it happen.

I agree scheduling is a problem. Triton just needs to look at the bass tournament finder wedsite.

I may have to buy a Skeeter.

Well put Bruce. I fished it last year. Had a great time. I like Fork, because it's convenient, but I won't mind if they move it to a larger lake in East Texas. When I spoke with them at the Classic, it sounded like they definitely wanted to have it, but were leaning towards one of the deep East TX lakes. Pretty sure if it's held on Rayburn in the fall, the local favorite will be a Triton owner, which I can appreciate.

I fished the Kentucky Lake the Fork Triton Owners tournaments last year and had a blast at both. I did ask them if they could hold it in East Texas this year. Toledo and Rayburn are big enough where scheduling conflicts don't matter much. I think once they set a date and it's up to us to really get the word out, and the more people we get the bigger the gift bags and door prizes get. Also, who cares if guides and professionals fish it, from my viewpoint everyone is welcomed... Supposed to be about family, fun and Triton owners.

I believe that Bruce was pointing to the fact that the top two finishers on Fork grabbed Lake Fork guides that were not Triton Owners for partners. I don't care. As long as the rules permit it, then it's a player's game. Also, given all the facts that Bruce pointed out and the fact that it was the first one, I thought 73 boats was a pretty good turnout.

I would like to see it on Ray Roberts anywhere except Deep East or East Tx. I hate slot lakes and one fish tournaments. Go to lake that have 14" limit and 5 fish big stringer.

Cedar Creek would be a good one to have a stringer tournament and thank god it doesn't have a stupid slot limit.

It would be great if the owners who have read this will let Triton know by giving them a call or sending an email with the suggestions. The tournament could happen this fall. Hope to see you all there, looking forward to it. popcorn2

I fished TOT on Fork last year and the TOT on Kentucky Lake last month. Triton does put on a great event, no doubt. When I talked to Triton about another Texas event they seemed to rule out Fork. Not sure if it the slot or what. The lady I spoke with said they were definitely wanting to come back to Texas, on a different lake. Conroe was mentioned, but nothing definite. The other thing I found interesting was that the Kentucky lake event was only a 3 fish limit this year instead of 5. ( lots of dead fish last year). It really pulled the weights close with 30 lbs for 6 fish winning. I could see them doing this in Texas to. In any case, I hope they get something planned out pretty soon.

I probably would not fish if it if it's not on Fork. Not competing with locals on Rayburn or TB, and not going to drive and pay for a hotel to fish on Conroe or anywhere else when I could stay at home and fish Fork.

Rayburn if not Fork. Lots of us in DFW area haven't been to Conroe or Livingston.

Gee I guess there is always a disadvantage to someone. Home waters does not always equal an advantage. Just pick one and let's have a good time.

Re: Triton owner's Tournament South ??? - 06/08/16 02:49 PM

I agree, home water has never been an advantage for me. I donate a lot of money every year to different tournaments on Fork. Most of them raise money for a charity. Let's all get our suggestions into Triton and hope it helps them to make a decision. I'm up for fishing on a different lake, it may change my luck. I've often said; if you can catch fish on Fork you should be able to catch them anywhere.

Understood. But when looking at a tournament like this, I think it's clear which lake has more people close by or that folks would readily travel to. JMHO

I am not traveling for a one fish big fish on a slot lake either. I am for 5 fish 14" limit with few tournaments being held on the lake each year. Rules out jack potters.

Re: Triton owner's Tournament South ??? - 06/14/16 05:13 PM

Just checked the Triton website and TOT South has been removed from the owners tournament list. Not sure what this means; are they about to release the 2016 TOT South date, or have they abandoned us? I suspect we have been abandoned. This post has had a lot of reads not sure how many of you are owners. If you come back and see this drop a note. This could be a head count for how many have interest in the event.

I don't blame you, but I am sure there are guys around Toledo and Rayburn that didn't drive up to fork for the same reason, so they want miss you..
