Well "loved" lures...

Well "loved" lures... - 05/11/16 01:58 PM

We all have special lures that are well "loved" or chewed on - whether it's magic or confidence - the fish will eat this lure when they won't eat others - and we've been lucky to keep it around long enough for it to show its scars…

Show us that special lure - I'd love to see what you've got - if you're willing to share a pic of your secret bait…

Here's mine - it is (or was) a Spro Bronzeye 65 in the Killer Gill pattern - it continues to catch fish even with it second set of replacement legs and I reach for this one rather than a brand new Killer Gill on the box right beside it…

Wish I could show you a picture of mine. It was an orange/blue/black vibrating jig I built and was beat to hell. I have caught so many fish on that lure it was unreal. By far my favorite bait of all time. 2 weeks ago I jammed it into a stump on lake fork and never saw it again. I fished that bait for almost 5 years. violin

I had a home made swim jig that was a killer. Lost it to a @!$&#$* gar.

I have a 3 year old KVD 1.5 that's become one of my loved lures. It's missing most of its paint and it runs funny, always a little to the right, and it'll wash out easier than the typical 1.5. But it gets bit WAY more than any of the others I've thrown. Dunno why, but that bait just gets them to bite when others won't, even other 1.5s in the same color.

I have several crankbaits that have most of the paint worn off that only get thrown in tournaments because they are the ones that produce.

Here is one I've had for years, no paint on bottom, catches more fish than new ones. I also have chrome rattle traps that are now bone color, work great.

+1 on the torn up traps. I have a old Cordell spot that's down to 20% chrome and 80% bone.

I had a Lobina Rico popper that my Uncle bought me about 10 years ago. I caught so many fish on that bait and lost it to a rope that was underneath a dock; I skipped it under there and it bounced off the water and into the rope. Couldn't get under there.... sad day. I've bought multiple Rico's of the same color but that one just had the "mojo".

It's all about confidence guys. When we're confident we do better work.

I have a yellow magic in bone that has had a few replacement hooks, and touch up paint. Can't make myself buy a new one. Also a rattle trap that I can't even find anymore. It was in a rainbow trout color and I honestly never knew the brand. I found it in my Dad's tackle box several years ago, and he said he got it several years before that even.

You are exactly right! Didn't realize how much confidence comes into play until recently.

There is no question confidence plays a major role.

But I know for a fact that the lure I posted about will outfish other 1.5s, even in the hands of someone with zero confidence in the bait. I've had two other people use it next to me without explaining it's my go to, and both of them outfished me with it.

Mine is a Storm Rattlin' Chug Bug (topwater bait)at least 10 years old. Original color was chrome bottom and blue/black sides and top. Now the bottom and sides are bone white because all the paint has come off from being "chewed on".

I had a Cotten Cordell Big-O in pearl white that I had caught (no fish story) a few thousand bass on over the 10 years I had it. A trot line took it from me one winter day on EM.
