Ray Roberts best patterns - 04/25/16 02:06 PM

Just curious, but what were some of the best patterns on Roberts this weekend? I fished 2 days and never really got on 3-4 lbers. I like the lake but it had my number this weekend. Just curious what other guys thought.

Re: Ray Roberts best patterns - 04/25/16 03:51 PM

Primary pattern for me for the last few weeks Chatterbait and/or swim jig around flooded brush. Secondary bite, shallow crank around rock.

Needs to be "steeper" banks closer to "deeper" water. Thus, there can't be a lot of flooded cover for the fish to roam. You want to be able to reach/cast to the bank. That way the fish don't have a lot of places to hide.

They still seem bunched up. I can't just go down the bank or hit every creek or pocket and get bites. I may get 3-6 in one small area (25-50 yards). Then find another similar and get 3-4 more fish. It's been hero or zero and never the same creek or spot from trip to trip.

Re: Ray Roberts best patterns - 04/25/16 05:42 PM

We had good luck with spinnerbaits in the wind and worms in calmer areas up in IDB past the bridge.
The wife had BB both days and it looks like weather pending we may have to go back next weekend thumb peep

My wife got hung up in a tree north of the bridge one day. My son also hung up in a tree. Got the son's out. He looked back and said "Mom you may be hung up but there is something on there" 5 pounder.

I remember when I first started Bass fishing and me and my brother finally made our way up past the 922 bridge in IDB. At that time the entire area was lined with thick hydrilla as far as the eye could see. In my best Hank Hill voice "It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw"... grin

James Reannie(sp) died a few years ago. I'm sure that's what Lindy told me. Rest In Peace "Ole 31 Ace".

I've been fishing the lake since '96 or so and have only been on the west side once. That was enough. Too much on the east side that I still haven't got around to.

He did pass away Delvec. He would also fish the old tracks around Ant Island and the big channel going into Sand on the right. Miss talking to him, Lindy and Mr P at the Fina (Alon now).

Re: Ray Roberts best patterns - 04/28/16 01:10 PM

Delvec. It's true. The only other time on the west side was when the guy I boat my boat from took me in on that side for a test drive and showed me "his fishing spot" where we caught nothing. I said I wanted to drive it around to see how it went and we went east to a spot I love, near Wolfe Creek and caught fish. Fished one other time over there and it was so muddy that my lure wouldn't hit the water. That's it. Never been back.

West side has a lot of creeks, islands, corp brush piles and my favorites, cemeteries and flooded tanks. Oldtimers know what's up there peep

Re: Ray Roberts best patterns - 04/28/16 02:55 PM

Lake has everything going for it right now..... high water doesnt seem to be bothering them. I imagine it will be about where it is now for txtt championship. That tournament is gonna be a shootout. RIght now you can catch em pre spawn, post spawn or on beds. Lake is def getting right..

James Raney passed in January of 2011. Retired from DFD and then Coppel FD. The dog was a Pit named Butterbean. He was a good fisherman and friend. Also baked some of the best pies around. He is missed.
Dannie, I too miss the morning conversation and visiting at the store. I remember those days fondly.
