Will They Close Ray Bob - 04/20/16 04:42 PM

Curious on the amoun of rain over there and if Ray Bob regulars think they will close it? I have not been since April and thought about paying it a visit over the next few weeks.

How could they close it?

It has only come up 6 inches so far. Should be fine.

Lake is a bit over 1.5ft high and steadily rising. Not sure about when they start closing ramps but I would also like to know.

Jordan Park re opened Jan 28th this year when the lake hit about 5 - 5.5 ft high. thumb

Thanks, I just all of the ramps being closed on a couple of occasions over the last year or so. I did not track to see what level that they shut them down. I guess one thing is certain, time will tell!

Thanks Again,
JJ

Yep. It's painful not being out there today with this weather.

You may want to call before you head out just in case. Just ask about the ramp you are planning to use.

Lake is almost 1 1/2'

I don't want to

We had our reservations at Whitney for next weekend canceled, and just got the last site at Isle du Bois reserved yesterday to replace those plans

Remember just a little over a year ago we were worried about not having enough water.

No way you can have too much, just go back and look at all the threads about it, like I said, too much of a good thing is bad, period.

Chances of heavy precipitation don't look that high for the coming week and a half

I'm keeping my fingers crossed

I hope it does. Don't want all the pressure from all the tournaments out there and especially that Toyota thing! Last fall, after the lake had a good long break from excessive pressure, fishing was awesome! Yes there are people who still fish for fun and relaxation only!

Water rising. We put in at Jordan yesterday. Ray Bob water stained and murky most places. Temp in mid 60's. Roy lost a big girl right at the boat yesterday, but he did get some nice chunks that would surely get him a check in a tourney. Enjoy till they open the gates.

I have enjoyed some really fun fishing when it get flooded.

But I have never heard of Raybob being closed, it a public lake and if all ramps get underwater, I believe the Marina will open high ramp for a fee. Plus the boats that are in the marina they have easy access to lake.

Re: Will They Close Ray Bob - 04/21/16 11:47 AM

Yes the marina was open even when the others were closed but it cut WAY down on boat traffic, tournament and fishing pressure. One ramp vs. many when all of the parks are open. Those guys in the marina had a system down and I am sure made bank last summer.

I totally agree with you but those kind of statements usually make you a target on these forums. I think with two years of spawn and low pressure the next couple of years could be really good for the fun fisherman.

Re: Will They Close Ray Bob - 04/21/16 03:58 PM

Thanks for all of the feedback. Many of you said the fishing is great. Question, are there still a lot of fish spawning and staging to spawn or is it about done? This year has just been so weird with the water warming up so early. One would think this moon would put some on the bed.

What do you Ray Bob vets say?

I've caught pre-spawn females as recently as Tuesday, but I also saw a lot of fry in the backs of pockets that day. I believe with the way the water temps have been that there are plenty of fish in all stages of the spawn all over the lake right now.

I personally haven't seen a fish on a bed this year out there, but I haven't been looking too hard.

Ya I know. I don't hate tourneys, I like to watch them on TV and have even fished a few. I have come to understand that I personally like fishing for fun. Tournaments make fishing work and I am not willing to turn a life long love of fishing in to work. I also don't like all the tournaments on Ray Roberts, my home lake since I moved here in 1993. Look at what Fork was compared to what it is, I rest my case! Roberts was a much better lake with hydrilla and an 18" MLL which slowed the amount of tournaments. Having said all that, it is a beautiful public lake there for all to use lawfully however they want.
