worm colors for clear water. - 04/04/16 03:42 PM

Will be fishing in extremely clear water, wanting to try finesse worms. My set up will be weedless wacky style hook. little weight if any. Just not sure on colors, meaning dark or light. Fishing from a kayak.
Any ideas, comments, will be appreciated.

I'm sure people have their preferences but you can't go wrong with natural colors. Watermelon, pumpkin etc.

Kayaked the Devils and the Buffalo both with gin clear water and did well on green pumpkin. I agree, natural colors, browns and greens.

Anything watermelon, green pumpkin, or shad colored is always a good choice for clear water.

Robowrom Curly Tail; Aaron's Magic/Red & Black Flake

My go to worm in clear water is one of these in Aaron's Magic/Red & Black Flake.

thanks for the replies, My go to is usually green pumpkin with red flakes or a darker blue flake color, just wasn't sure in clear water. of course I won't know If I don't throw it. I will pick up a shad color scheme.

Thanks again.

If those are your confidence baits, throw them in the clear water, both of those colors will produce. A solid white worm has always been one of my secret weapons, senkos especially.

On Alan Henry, flue fleck is the color that nearly everyone throws. Also, green pumpkin, green pumpkin/red flake, watermelon/red fake and other color of green. Hope this helps.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I like the Roboworm colors a lot for clear water. Aaron's magic, Aaron's madness, margarita mutilator. Grew up fishing California in some ultra clear lakes and these worms were always winners.

pumpkin w chartreuse tail, this has been a number one color up north here for 2-3 yr now.

Outcast tackle is where I saw them first but I don't think they make stickworm baits anymore so I use this Yum worm. To bad too they used to be $25/100 worms

pumpkin seed, plum and fire and ice depending on depth.

Interesting write up on why you shouldn't get too obsessed with color.

Follow up for my questions. again thanks for the replies.
turns out the water was stained with pollen from all the trees. There was yellow pollen floating on the lake. It was not as clear as normal.
The bait the worked in the end was a swimming fluke jr. in a shad color and a roboworm in a shad color. buddy did good on a bubble gum finesse worm.
Here is my smallest at 15" largest was 18" A pickerel was landed on a lake fork perch color scheme swim bait. But pickerel did not want to wait for a photo opt. and flipped out of my kayak.

Nice fish! Thanks for sharing your results.

That looks like a fun place to fish with all those lily pads. A frog or a buzzbait would probably do well there.

So pretty much any color or black or white. What does that tell you?

Frogs didn't even get a glance by the fish. Several varieties of frog were tried. Believe me we tried.

Don't think that just because they wouldn't hit a frog or buzzer one day that you should write it off from now on. I have seen days when they would not touch a hollow body frog and they would crush a Ribbit frog.

That's the cool thing about bass.. We don't get to tell them what they're gonna eat.
