Need someone with extensive bass experience

Need someone with extensive bass experience - 03/23/16 05:53 PM

I'm trying to find someone that can meet up at Ray Roberts and give me some pointers on my graph in regards to bass fishing only. I can spot the crappie and sandies easily but I can't help but get the feeling I'm missing something in regards to bass. I'm not a tournament angler and I'm not the least bit interested in secret spots etc just want as close to a definitive idea of what a bass looks like on my graph in my boat. Also some pointers on setting up on deeper bass or bait schools more efficiently. Any help would definitely be appreciated.

James Biggs provides trips like this. He is an excellent fisherman and a fantastic teacher from what I see on here. Give him a shout.

Just PM on of the pro staffers on here for whatever brand you have. They can prolly help you over the phone. It's why they're on the pro staff.

Dang it.... "Extensive" disqualified me.

Yeah I know the pro staffers are great but idk if they are great enough to see in real time what I'm looking at on my boat on my graph via the telephone. Any contact info for James Biggs would be helpful to get in contact with him. As far as "extensive" just specifying I need someone other than the guy that just wants to go fishing or someone like me who can say yeah that's a fish but doesn't have the experience to say yeah that's threadfin shad there and those are gizzards over there and that's a group of largemouth strong arming a sandbass that's riding a flathead catfish like a pony lol. Then I'll be more than happy to take strangers out and we can test the knowledge I gain from said graph guru.

The DI raised my game back in the day. I think this helped me the most in fish identification.

Before DI I know I was fishing Brush piles that I thought had fish on 2d. And sometimes i'd catch 1 off them. DI really helps give a better image of what is down there.

Mr. Biggs is your man.

Yeah I love my DI because I normally just go after crappie but lately on Ray Roberts I've just been kinda intrigued by what I'm seeing on the 2D. I always hear bass stay mostly horizontal on the bottom while crappie and sandies tend to stack up which the DI definitely shows better than the 2D in my opinion. As far as telling cats from bass the most I've been told is the cats will generate a harder return around their heads. Rough fish I was told tend to appear furry on the 2D.

It's very simple. You pay his $400 guide fee and he'll show you what the settings are.

I would pick a Lake that has a population of bass first... It may take a few days to find them on Roberts LOL I'm a fan can ya tell!!

Actually this is exactly what James specializes in.

Re: Need someone with extensive bass experience - 03/23/16 09:30 PM

OzzieFish that may well be my biggest issue. For some strange mental reason I'll only fish Ray Roberts though. Boats only been to one other lake and that was lewisville and just one time lol. I've caught a good amount of bass usually the smallest of the small but there have been a couple lucky instances where a really large one will decide it wants to check out what I have in the boat. Like I said I mostly get after the crappie but it drives me kinda crazy having a capability with the graph but being ignorant to how to use it.

He isn't fishing the tournaments this year. I believe he is still a full time fireman locally and does this as a side business. He isn't a fishing guide but an instructional guide. He'll go to any lake, show you how to break it down and search for patterns, read electronics , etc. Search for him on here. Several people have used him recently and have all had excellent things to say about their experience.

His user name in the forum is James Biggs

Contact Slade Dougharty. He is a specialist with Lowrance and Humminbird. He works out of lake Fork. Call 817-797-8762. Tell him I referred you...

Dagger,
This is not the best time of year for looking for bass on your sonar. Most are moving up shallow to spawn. Side imaging is what I primarily look at this time of year. Wait till about May-June and you will gain a lot more knowledge. You can look on here under general electronics forum and there is a sticky with Lowrance images. A lot of guys have posted some really good images.

Re: Need someone with extensive bass experience - 03/23/16 10:34 PM

On my 1988 Lowrance fishfinder I can differentiate male Gizzard Shad from female, Kentucky Bass from largemouth, and determine what color flake they want in their green pumpkin creature. I really don't see what's so challenging. Just last week I spotted a 3 inch Threadfin doing the tango around a pocket of Haelios Plankton in 90 feet of water over a submerged lunchbox.

thumb Not a knock on Mr. Biggs, cause I don't know him, but I can guarantee you, Slade knows Lowrance and Hummingbird, inside and out. When the Toyota was at Fork, several of the pros were having problems, Slade was the man that fixed em up. You will not be disapointed, but don't fish with him cause he front ends REAL bad!!! HWH
