Medina Lake - 03/21/16 09:31 PM

Has anyone been fishing on Medina Lake? I'm headed there this weekend and really wanted to see how things are since it got water in it.

Thanks!

Have been 3 times in the last week, BEFORE COLD FRONT HIT. Have averaged 20 to 30 bass , all between 8 and 12 inches. Finally caught some white bass last wed on small crank baits, 2 were over 2 lbs. I live close so I am able to go . I think that there are some bass to be caught but the drought took its toll. They were small shad in the thousands , which is a good sign. But no bream, that I could see. There still must be a populations of whites, so I will concentrate on that for the next few weeks.

I'll be out there this weekend.. Taking the yak on the northeast side.. I'm gonna try where the river flows in to the lake area.. I had heard they were biting and stuff.. Can't wait to wet a lone and try it out.. I'll definitely post some pics if I get anything worth writing about.. grin

Was out there this past Sunday and the previous weekend, caught well over 100 fish, had some between 2.5 and 3.5 pounds, caught a lot of the little 12 inch fish as well. I know I pulled up to a creek with a bend before it hit a shallow flat and caught one every cast. The little lake is in great shape, they had a great survival rate from the stocking, a lot of the fish I caught, over 14" all were full of eggs. If this lake keeps water it will be something special in a few years for sure.

Amazing. I can go to a lake that has been full of water (canyon) and not catch a fish and then you have Medina that was on the verge of extinction and you guys are catching a ton of fish. bang

Do you reckon the fish are starving and that's why they are biting so good?

Not "supposedly" as it did take place .. I was there when TP&W stocked 200,000 fingerlings.
Good Luck

Every fish I have caught has been extremely healthy, they a Ton of stuff to eat, I know I have seen huge balls of bait fish, crawdads galore and I was looking around in this cove and I saw a schools of small perch that where every where. My only concern is were are educating these little dudes and when they get big they will have seen every lure known to man, lol.

Good to hear, hopefully the bass can avoid the filet knife. Now hopefully every white bass feels a filet knife.

100 fish days are a direct result of the stocking last summer. Plenty of places to find them. Finding bigger fish is a challenge right now since the little ones are so aggressive. Bigger baits don't seem to help as the little ones will take on about anything. Just a little patience in getting through the small fish and you will find bigger ones. Quite a few big fish were still there after the drought.
Wth two good years of spawns and last summer's stocking the lake will be a great place in a couple of years if it can hang on to its water.

I have caught quite a few bass out there this year. Being from Tennessee it's really nice having a lake I can bass fish in the area. I have caught a few around the 3 pound size but I have caught a ton of small ones. They will basically hit anything which makes fishing with the kids out there pretty fun. These picture are from 12 Mar. If anyone is out that way tomorrow and sees a Gray 2015 Tracker Pro Guide stop by and say hi. I plan on being there around 0800.

To give you an idea of the size I was using a 4" worm.

They will hit almost anything. You never know what the next cast will bring you.

This is the size I tend to be catching the most of. That's a 6" plastic worm

The guy was 3.06lbs.
