Best baitcast for $175 - 03/11/16 03:53 PM

I am currently using all Revo Sx or STx reels but having a problem with them letting out line while in the rod box. When I finally get them untangled I can pull out drag until it stops and they fish fine but just frustrating that I am having that problem. I am thinking about trying another brand and just wanted some feedback.

Shimano Curado I

I definitely think you should go with a Curado. They've been proven winners for years and they're truly the bomb. Shimano hit a home run again with the I series and these reels feel like a $300 reel in your hand. They're very durable and strong but they're small and compact, which is hard to find in a reel nowadays. They have a smooth, buttery retrieve and all the drag power you could possibly need. I really think you'd be happy with a Curado. Give it a try!

I looked them and they only have 5 ball bearings compared to 11 on most higher end reels.

Also check into the Cabela's Arachnid... near the same as Tatula only with "Cabelas" stamped on it and 4 or 5 additional bearings and just slightly over your budget... if you can wait them out they can usually be had for $130 or so on sale

5 high end bearings. I know of 10 and 12 bearing reels I wouldn't buy or even use if they were given to me.

I have several Tatulas and many Arachnids. Watch for sales on the Arachnid. I got some as low as $108.00. They're great for heavy line. For light line I like Lews LITE.

I use reVos but am very fond of abu sweeden 4600 5600 round reels.
I upgrade the spool bearings to abec 7.
You also can't beat a good used abu morrum 1600 or 3600 for round reels.

Re: Best baitcast for $175 - 03/12/16 12:53 AM

Ball bearing count doesnt really tell you much. You can buy reels with 10 or 11 ball bearings for $25. Most of those bearings arent anywhere they do anything like in the handle. A quality reel with 5 or 6 quality bearings is far superior to a cheap reel with twice as many. So, dont even take bearing count into consideration.

Fishing 13 concept....bought 3 more today. If you wanted a different route, I'd say look at the revo S for the money.
