Which Power Poles - 8' or 10' - 03/08/16 05:28 PM

Pros and cons of 10 ft poles?

Pro - They're longer so you can operate them in a little deeper water
Con - They're longer so they stick up further possibly making it harder to operate around trees and getting the boat in/out of the garage.

I'm on my 3rd set of Power Poles. Since I'm running a 24' Skeeter Bay now, I went with the 10 footers this time. They are being installed right now. The only con I can give on the 10 footers is that they look a little odd on a bass boat. Drop me a PM in a couple of weeks and I'll tell you what I can about running 10s vs 8s.

Agreed. The 10 footers look a bit ridiculous on a bass boat.

12ft talons look much better on bass boats...

I went with 10's and wish I had done 8's. The height makes them a little top heavy and they wear the bushings out pretty quick wobbling around, I forgot them once and hit them going under a bridge and in deeper water they really torque and twist. Also, on a Skeeter especially because of how they mount, they just stick up too high and look funny. I would do 8's if I was doing it over.

I used to think I wanted 10's instead of 8' because the extra depth would open up new places I could use them. Until last spring I watched a guy try repeatedly to get into a backwater pond with them and eventually give up because they kept hanging. I eased right on through with my 8'er all the way up and ended up catching several fish back there.

I disagree. My 10 allows me to stabilize on windy points at about 9.5 ft. I have 21 ft Legend. Ton of my friends wish they would have got 10 instead 8.

I have 8's and never even thought about going to 10's since they are only available in Blades. I stayed with Pro Series II's and have no complaints.

Save the trouble! Buy dual 12' talons, best money I ever spent on my boat. Easy to install and no worries of hydraulic lines and way shorter than 10' poles and none of that flopping going down the lake

I have eight's. I have been in situations that ten's would have been better.

I have thought about buying Talons, still not totally convinced.

I will take the 8 blades all day long. Perfect for me and what I do

I went with the 8's again, third set, don't think i need the tens and I sure do not like the look, if I were wanting 10 or 12's i would have to try the Talon and man are they butt ugly. stir

I'm on my second set of 8' Blades, They are good for me. The 10's seem like they will get in the way.

Gotta love front door service. Stroman just dropped off the boat. The 10 footers look pretty good on a 24 foot boat.

Is that a merc or a blacked out Yamaha? Nice rig

Most people just get the 8's. I'm pretty happy with mine. Darn glad I didn't get a talon too.

Re: Which Power Poles - 8' or 10' - 03/09/16 07:00 AM

When fishing that type of situation, my 8's have always been adequate. If I bought a nice boat that came with 10's then I would keep them on, but if buying new I would go 8.

Get the 8s!

Re: Which Power Poles - 8' or 10' - 03/09/16 03:32 PM

I think it depends on the type of boat you have.

I have 10's on my skeeter and they sit up way too high....like 2 feet over the cowling

If I buy a skeeter again I will put 8's on it

Re: Which Power Poles - 8' or 10' - 03/09/16 03:49 PM

I love the one 8 i have. I wish I had the second one. It will happen eventually.

I think the depth the 12' Talon reaches is awesome, but they're way too ugly for me to consider putting them on a boat.

I have put 10's on my last 2 boats. I have just become accustomed to poling down in 9' and in Texas you can fish less than 9 ' most of the year. they are worth the minor inconvenience. They only stick up 11"s higher than the 8'. Ive had both and I would recommend the 10's if you primarily fish shallow.

For all you guys that have 10s and wish you went with 8s, I would be happy to trade my white 8' blades for a set of 10fters. Let me know!!!

What about performance? Looks mean very little if they are not taking care of business? I've yet to get some and wondering which size is most stable and trouble free on windy days, does the difference put more strain on the transom?

I put 10's on my new boat this January. I love them! Only problem I've had is them splashing water on the back deck when coming off plane. Anyone had this problem?

Re: Which Power Poles - 8' or 10' - 03/10/16 04:06 PM

12' talons ........for one there smaller than the power poles.fold down.and no hydraulic hoses..... but its roflmaosome of y'all are saying how thay look. I guess yat buy pretty baits too. .if your fishing for looks. Then I can see were your coming at. But if your fishing to get a check... who cares how thay look. ...some lakes are steep pretty close to the bank. It would suck if your hitting a ledge off the bank paralleling it.and find a sweet spot around 10' of water and you only have 8' anchor system. And u got money on the line.something to think about. ...but if your out there for looks and showcasing your rig then go for that... bling bling..... my two cents.

When I said there smaller. I ment for to say 10' pole compared to talons 10' on how tall thay are..... sorry about that. ... whip

My Talon was holding me good in 11.5 ft at Fork Monday!!! I actually like the way it looks! But yes easy to install, no hydraulic fluid/pumps, tilts to get in garage, super quiet going down (not so much going up)....
