On fish that size it's really hard to tell without a scale sample, but a male bass has a round anal orifice/vent and females are elongated.

The female will always have credit cards and the male will carry a large stack of bills.

Wouldn't most females this time of year have a big belly with the eggs?

This time of year, the males are pi$$ers. Just squeeze lightly to see if you get a stream. We have learned this from catching the big males in Mexico. A 5 lb. male can shoot a stream.

If your catching females you are probably waiting for a check after the tourney, if you are catching males you are driving home with no money. That is how you tell.

Hahaaaaa funny thing is when I was young I caught a bass and told my dad "it peed on me" he said I dont think that's [censored] son. Now I know what he meant 20 something years later

I was told the females are the ones with the bigger mouths.

roflmao My goodness this heads downhill fast.

This time of year you just give their belly a very gentle squeeze and if a yellowish clear jelly-like substance comes out, she's a she. wink

I was told by a trophy lake owner that you can do a paperclip test. I was told that on males it would only go in about 1/8" to 1/4". Not sure that it is true or if it potentially damages the fish in any way. I did not see it done so I really don't know for sure if it works or not. Either way, I bet the fish gets a weird look on its face when you try it.
