Helix 7 mount, metal alternative? - 02/14/16 02:04 AM
I love my Helix 7, but I am worried about the plastic Gimbal mount failing, particularly if the water is rough.
I have the unit mounted to the front on a large ram mount. It doesn't budge, but it seems like something that could fail.
Has anyone had any issues with their current plastic mounts failing?
Does anyone know if a metal alternative is out there?
Thanks!

Broke one of my Helix 7 mounts today. Caught it with a dock rope. Luckly, the wiring and plugs are pretty snug. It was hanging over the side of the boat by the time I backed in the trailer.
Funny thing? I made a 3/4"'thick lexan double mount for the two at the console that is strong enough to shake the boat on the trailer with it and was in the process of making a low profile metal mount for the bow unit. Guess I need to proceed with the project on my lunch breaks at work.

I'd love to see pics when you are finished!
3/4" lexan is some heavy stuff, I can see it doing the job.

I've ran some rough water before. I have mine on a ram mount. Helix with the ram I have has been solid. I used Terry at Anglers Marine near Cedar Creek to install it. He does good work.
