Rod cover question.

Rod cover question. - 01/18/16 04:51 PM

Does anyone make rod covers that the eyes don't poke through the cover? I currently use rod glove and they all do it and I keep banging rod eyes into the rod tubes.

There are some out there that aren't the woven mesh. I got some many years ago but have no idea what brand they are or if they are even made but they used to be. Search the internet, you may find some.

Yessir that was my issue. All I could find were woven mesh and without seeing them firsthand there is no way to know if the mesh is tight enough to keep it from happening.

Loomis rod sock. Rod guides don't poke through. Can sometimes find them on E Bay.

You might try the micro guide rod glove. I've had no problems with them.

Power tackle rods makes a really good one without that problem, it's woven but really small and tight never had a guide come through.

Rod Armorz brand...7' is green, 7'3" is yellow, 7'6" is blue and 7'11" is red... Spinning will be available soon... Retail for 8.00 each

Haven't seen the pros in person but looks like they will be a pain getting into a rod tube. Maybe I am wrong?

I decided to make my own covers and found some expandable braided sleeve. It expands quite a bit but the eyes do not come through the braid. It' a tight fit and it will shrink back to it's original size. I am not sure if I can post the link, send me a PM and I will send you the details. Here is a picture of it on my rod and you can see the eyes don't poke through.

Just bought a bunch from a guy advertising in the classified section. They arrived today. Well built. Just order a little longer than advertised length, but at 4.50 a pop, great investment! His company is Upgrade Fishing out of Nashville. Free shipping on orders over $50.

Rod ArmorZ have been designed to have a tighter compression and also a tighter weave so they won't blow out off your rod while you are traveling. The filaments are also a larger size to help minimize the eyes poking through. You can still spread the filaments and push the eye through if you want to though.
