I've got a couple rods with the insert of the tip broken. One is completely gone and the other is chipped. Anyone do these kind of repairs here locally?

If it's the rod tip only, it is easy to replace those yourself. They sell the glue and rod tips at Academy.

Just gently heat the existing tip with a lighter and pull the old tip off with a pair of pliers (careful it is hot). heat the glue stick with the lighter to melt it a little and dab the glue on the end of the rod. Select the appropriate diameter (there are three or four common sizes)and slide it on the tip. Again with pliers as the glue is hot. Make sure it is lined up correctly. Trip excess glue. There you have it a new tip. Other guides are more complicated.

Be careful when heating the tip because you can fry the little bit of the rod that is inside the ferrule and then your rod will be about 1/2 inch shorter and different in action. One guy suggested hanging it by the tip guide from a hook in the ceiling or whatever and gently heating and applying downward pressure until the tip comes off. Not all of these are held by ferrule cement. It seems that some are stuck on with epoxy which makes the extraction difficult.
