Fairfield or Monti - 01/02/16 03:53 AM

Taking the GF to either of those lakes on Sunday. Curious if they are open and what the conditions are. I just bought her, her first baitcaster and I want her to get some experience with it.

thanks for the info.. I know the weather has messed things up some what..

Check the Fairfield website because I believe they close for deer hunters during the rut. Fishing is hit or miss out there too

We went to Fairfield for a little while today. Got on the water very late at 8:30. A brisk 45 degrees with what appeared to be a 5mph NE wind. After seeing the two boat launches and pairs of fishermen in most boats, I figure there was at least one club tournament. Headed to the outfall where there was 3 bass boats locking up the cable. Water was 70 degrees where we were at. Caught two small LMB on cranks and moved on. On the way out, I saw several of the obligatory south-of-the-border cast net boats. Fished reeds with soft plastics and cranks. A couple of guys in a red Ranger looked like they had the flipping pattern down with several fish. I wish I could have seen what they were throwing but they were working the reeds very close and I couldn't tell. Good for them!

My Wide did pick up a nice #4-10 on her tiny H2O crank bait. We only caught 4 fish in the 4 hours we were on the water but it was nice to be outisde. In some of the other places we fished, the water never dropped below 58 degrees.

I sure wish I knew the reasoning for moving the barrier for the intake to the mouth of the canal. What are they trying to protect or keep the general public away from? I used to catch a lot of fish in there. But then again, I don't understand a lot about the way power plant lakes are maintained.

Monti has not settled back in. It was stained, and the bite was off unless you were up past the buoys, of course!

Take her to Fairfield. It's a fun lake. Easy to catch 14-17" bass all day. Till your arms fall off.

I went yesterday. Caught around 30. Most were between 14-17. Lost one very good one. Could have been 22-23".

If you like flipping reeds. That is.

I couldn't get a bite on anything else. Take several packs of green pumpkin Biffle Bugs. The large sized.

Nope, but if the bite is off in other areas. Or, I am just out fun fishing, I'll hit the places where I know they stack up:

Discharge
Intake
Bridges
Pump Station
Dam

I was in a white Nitro. Wearing black 100mph. I was the boat that anchored off the point for a hour...waiting for a shot at the discharge. Then gave up and went and caught fish. Lol.

Went to Monti today and everyone is right about it being stained. Really stained to me and we only managed 5 bass and about a 7 pound grinnel! Gosh i hate them things lol

Caught 3 at the railroad bridge at daybreak on traps and crankbaits and then 2 on the higheay bridge. One on a dropshot and other on a rattletrap. Tough day. Cant wait for it to settle back down and clear up

Fairfield today was slow. Only 6 bites all day. Landed 5 for about 14 lbs. All flipping reeds.
