Helix 9SI Maping issues

I purchased the Helix 9 SI at BPS on Friday and installed it same day. I had a KVD859 at the stren that I moved to the bow and installed the Helix at the stern. The KVD859 came with a Navonics Platinum Plus card and my skeeter has a com hub so I assumed I could take the Navonics card and put it into the Helix and network the two together. Took the boat out to Ray Roberts yesterday only to find the only map that would come up on the Helix 9SI was an outline of the lake but absoultely no detail/break lines. When scrolling through the options I selected the card slot and it recognized the card was intalled and said loading maps. It then said no data found?
My question is, am I missing something? It was my undertanding that the Helix 9 should have a base map avalialbe "it does not". And why would my Navonic card not work? Why would I not be able to access map data from the 859 if the two are networked?

Any suggestions or support would be appreciated.

You're probably one of the first running one of these units, so replies might be few and far between. Keep us updated though, because I'm sure quite a few of us are considering getting one of the new Helixes, including myself.

I was told by a Humminbird tech that only a helix to helix will share maps but should share waypoints from helix to older core series

I have gotten conflicting info on whether the 2 units would communicate. The guys at BPS didnt event know there were plugs in the back of the unit for comm links. I sent a querry to Hummingbird and am wating for a response. The real head scratcher is why the unit would not load the Navonics maps off the card and why none of the 3,000 lake maps the unit is supposed to have pre loaded show up either.

post your question on BBC forum. they have alot going on about the helix models under humminbird section.

Unless you have two Humminbird ONIX units, you won't have units that shares mapping.

Helix to Helix will NOT share mapping that I am aware of.

The Helix 9 series has ContourXD background mapping which is the same as the 800 series.

One more thing, if Ray Roberts is not one of the 3000 bodies of water that ContourXD covers, you won't have any mapping for it built-in.
ContourXD has 2006 Navionics Hotmaps data.

Hmm. If the Contour XD is based on the 2006 Navonics Hotmaps then Ray Roberts should definately be on there since I have used one form or another of the Navonics going back to the early 2000's and Ray Roberts has always been on there. Still doesn't expalin why the unit will not load the Navonics Platinum Plus card when it is inserted directly into the unit.

Did you check the Chart Select setting to see if the Navionics card and its slot was selected?
Did you try both card slots to see if one may be defective?

BTW, is Ray Roberts the map name of that location? That name is NOT listed with the ContourXD list that I just checked.
You can downoad the lake list from the Humminbird website, LOOK at it.

Additional note, I have the 2006 Navionics Hotmaps Premium South card and Ray Roberts is on that card, BUT it is not on ContourXD with contour lines.
Lake Fork is on the South card, is just the outline on ContourXD,.
ContourXD has map data from that time period and only 3000 of the total locations of what all the regional maps amd Gold coverage have.

I am comparing the 2006 map card on a unit with ContourXD as I type this.

The map chip I have is the 2014 Navonics Platinum Plus South Edition.

My brother has a helix7 and told me only lake master chips would work in the helix.... His works fine with lakemaster

Your brother is wrong. Navionics mapping will work in the Helix 7 versions with GPS. Read the unit specs.

I have personally tried the Navionics+, Hotmaps Premium, and Hotmaps Platinum in the Helix 5 SI GPS in a display model at a local retailer, and it read the mapping on all three cards including the Sonar Charts map layer on the + and Platinum cards.

As Wayne mentioned above, make sure you select right or left card slot depending on which card slot the navionics card is in, as far I am concerned the Humminbird baseball for Texas are pretty much inferior to any map card. Never used the the baseman for anything

I have the 7 and it did not come with any base mapping i bought the navionics and it works fine. I was also told the helix cannot connect and share.

You also may want to give navionics a call too.

Is your chip the Platinum South chip or the Platinum Plus chip? Also, did the card you have now work fine in the KVD859 for that body of water?

So did anyone figure out yet if the new just released Navionics+ will work with the Helix series?
Cabela's Q&A says it will but Humminbird has not listed it as compatible on their website. (that I can find)

YES, ANY Helix model will read ANY maps on ANY Navionics card.

The Helix 5 and 7 models won't read the extra stuff that the Platinum cards have.
