10 pound test ok for flipping jigs with a spinning reel?

Got a new jig today don't want to break it off or break off a fish what is the recommended line. I'm a newbie at bass fishing

George, you will most likely get 20 diff answers but I like using braid for jigs. I would recommend 20# Power Pro braid and tie straight to the jig. It is very strong and has the diameter of about 6# mono.

If you want your heart broken then use 10 pound test! Some might disagree but I use 20lb seaguar on my jigs and have good success with it. I fish some nasty cover though when I use a jig.

If you don't want to break it off I'd def going bigger on the test line. If you are questioning it go bigger. 15 should be good. You'll be able to set the hook real good and not have to worry. But sometimes it happens

Ten pound test NOT advisable. Jigs are most effective in cover, and as one man above said, "If you want your heart broken"..........

Not saying you can't land any fish, but losing a big trophy fish hurts.

Plus spinning reels love braid.

What jig did you get and where do you plan on fishing it(what type of cover)? That will help to answer the question. If it is a finesse jig in open water 10 pound might be better. Depends on the application.

17 lb minimum or even 20.

I use a hvy finesse 1/2oz jig year round on 20 pound seaguar with no problems

You need at least 15 lb test. And if you're going to use a spinning setup, you'll want a MH or H power rod with a fast tip.

One more thing about jig fishing. You REALLY gotta set the hook with a jig. If you think you have a bite, set the hook HARD, FAST, and UPWARD. Not to the side.

Well George ol'buddy if you only bought one jig let me save you some heart'ake if you don't want to lose it...keep it as far from the lake as you can...LOL...cause you can snag and lose it on heavy braid or mono or floro just as easy as light line..like said what kind of jig did you buy ? If you plan on using 10 pound test on a med/med hev action spinning rod then hopefully your jig is under a 1/4oz and has a light weed/brush guard...if your jig is heavier than a 1/4oz and has a heavy weed/brush guard you are going to want heavy'r line and a stiffer rod to get the hook set... I fish 1/8oz jigs on my spinning rod and skip docks w/10lb mono and have pulled 5-6 pounders out from under complex docks...1/4 to 3/8oz jigs I pitch on a medhvy baitcaster with 20lb floro...1/2 to 1.1/4oz I pitch/flip on a heavy baitcaster with 25lb floro or 65lb braid...this is just what I do...good luck ! Jig fishing will usually get you better quality bites...
