It was only for year model '11 I believe. "Not a recall" but they will replace your "cylinder block assembly" for you, as they acknowledge a possible defect.

Re: Yamaha SHO - 11/20/15 05:05 PM

Yamaha has identified the potential for certain
VF250LA cylinder block assemblies, produced
November 2009 through November 2010, to prematurely
wear under certainconditions. Aspart of Yamaha’sgoal to provide the
highest level of customer satisfaction, Yamaha will cover the cost of
parts and labor to replace the cylinder block assembly
as a one-time goodwill gesture. Yamaha is notifying all registered owners of affected
units by mail. A copy of this letter is included in this
bulletin. The customer should take this letter along with the affected
outboard to an authorized Yamaha dealer.
The Warranty Authorization (W.A.) process will be
utilized to request parts and labor for this ServicePer-Bulletin
Campaign.

Yes I did. Mine is a 2011. Sartin Marine called me earlier this week to tell me they were going to replace the powerhead at no charge to me.

I've had no issues with the motor and I have run the dog urine out of it.

Same here! I'm getting close to 200hrs on mine and I've ran it pretty hard. Not sure if I really want to get it replaced...

Then I would run it until then and have it changed. I'm on eight years since haveing a powerhead replaced on my HPDI.

Re: Yamaha SHO - 11/20/15 10:19 PM

Got my letter for my 2010 SHO. The letter states I have until the end of December 2017 to get the powerhead replaced.
All I need is a recommendation for a good yamah mechanic to do the service, as there are none in my area anymore.

I take it you are talking about 250 SHO only. Mine is a 2010 200 SHO

Re: Yamaha SHO - 11/20/15 11:28 PM

That's correct. As far as I know, the letters where sent out to 250 SHO owners only.
There is more info over on the BBC.

Doesn't a 250 and 225 have the same power head?
I have a 2011 225 and haven't heard a thing.

Yes received letter as well, comes with a one year warranty. My warranty expires in June 2016, so if block is replaced in December they will use your existing warranty plus new warranty to make 1 year warranty. OMG

Didn't know it came with a 1 year warranty after it has been replaced! That's even better news!

Just wait until Dec 1, 2017 to have the work done. Problem solved.

I thought that's why they called it a SHO, it's keeps SHOwing up in the repair .shops.

Re: Yamaha SHO - 11/24/15 04:36 PM

Mine has never had an issue. IMO, Yamaha is being Proactive.

Mercury had their share of blown powerheads when the Optimax's first came out. 1999 - 2001 they were referred to as OptiPops.

Not to start a debate. I have owned 20 Mercs and 8 Yams thru the years. They are both great motors.

Mine was made Nov '11 and put on my ranger in march '12. Am I going to get a notice too?

Maybe. You would have most likely received the letter by now. Call your dealer and give them your serial number.

Re: Yamaha SHO - 11/25/15 04:13 PM

I got the "this is not a recall" letter last week too. Haven't owned a SHO in three years. I guess the guy that bought it never transferred the warranty. Oh well?!
