Rainfall total check in - 10/24/15 02:53 PM

OK... So I want people with ACTUAL RAIN GAUGES LOL

I am on the North side of cleburne

We keep one at the store... It was emptied at 8 am yesterday with 4.25 in it. Emptied today at 8 am today... WITH 4.5 inches in it.... and it is still raining

Now I realize that may be very localized but we keep a record so when people ask we can answer intelligently... BUT that being said that's a BUNCH of water, lake pat is up over a foot in 24 hours

They are saying Grapevine got 18" of rain yet the lake is up a foot or two. Some are reporting 7-10" at Fork and its barely up a foot.

Re: Rainfall total check in - 10/24/15 08:47 PM

Itll take a day or two after the rain goes away for the runoff to really make an impact on the lakes. The water data is a great site but only updates once a day. Im sure most of them have come up more today and will a lot more once things dry out and runoff goes in

Actually some update more than once a day. You can track changes all day long on some sites.

Its come up less than 1' since yesterday. My point being if you guys truly got 17" of rain in 26 hours we would be seeing greater spikes this early in. Just seems though we have had a lot of significant rain that a lot of the rain gauges are reading awful generous.

Cedar Creek is up 2.5 feet with the rain.

Re: Rainfall total check in - 10/24/15 09:25 PM

have to remember the may rains were over the whole month and the ground was saturated so all the water had to runoff somewhere. here the last few days we have been dry for over a month or more most of this rain has probably soaked into the ground therefore creating very little runoff don't expect the lakes to fill as fast as they did earlier in the year. all in all its much needed rain for our lakes.

I'm in Coppell, about 2 miles from the Lake Grapevine Dam. My back yard rain gauge has shown us to have received a minimum of 12.7" of rain. I say "minimum" because the first time I checked, yesterday, it was full and overflowing.

I think half of it went in the ground before it started running off. I had 8.2 in Fate, and some of the cracks in the ground are still there.

Got a little over 10"s in S. Burleson. but not many water puddles. Ground has been dry and soaked up most of the rain. I have had about 1/2" of rain since May. Ground has been really dry. Lakes will not get any significant run off till ground is saturated.
