How much will you pay for a lure? - 10/23/15 02:43 AM
Swim bait on tackle warehouse for $440! I dare you to buy it! How much have y'all spent on a lure and do you have one that is worth every penny?
A $440 bait won't make me catch bigger or more fish so no need to spend that much, probably $10 is most i've ever spent and my tops.

Most money spent on one lure? $22. Megabass Vision 110. Worth every penny. In fact, I own several of them.

The question is when you get used to breaking off $20 baits have you lost your mind? lol
I've got some swimbaits in the $80-100 range, very few though.

$50 Bull Shads. Catching bigger fish consistently is worth the $50.

I fish mostly offshore for marlin and such. Those lures start in the $40-$50 range and go up to the $80-$100+. And we sometimes lose a couple hundred dollars worth of Shimano Butterfly jigs a day to kingfish and cudas when they are thick jigging for AJ.
All that said I still get upset when I lose a $10 bass lure, lol.

I've got a couple of glide baits that sell for $200+. To me, they're worth every bit of it. It's all about what you like to do and how you like to play.

Your pb bass there looks kinda like a Marlin as well!
I unfortunately like lucky craft baits, and I don't like losing them- so I guess up to $20 or so.

Draw the line at 9 bucks on hard baits, 7 dollars on soft plastics, 4 on hooks.... Took a couple years to crossover but I had some extra money and bought some tungsten in bulk.

I've spent $20-$25 on a lure. Thank god I haven't gotten into throwing the big swimbaits. . . .yet. But that is definitely next on the list. . . .better start saving up now.

Probably in the $15 range, bug cranks mainly. Bought an A-rig for about the same. Just don't fish swimbaits so I haven't bought into the high priced lures. Ill stick with my jigs haha

$27.99 for a vision 110+1.... But other than that the most I've spent is like $13. Also I had $45 combined with swimbaits and hooks on an A-Rig

If it's discontinued and I like it, I will buy it. I am more prone to spend high money on topwaters because I am confident I won't lose them. Deep divers I don't pay a premium for.

I have baits from $30-180 range in my swimbait box. It just depends on what kind of baits appeal to you and the style of fishing you like to do.

I have paid close to 50 bucks, heck what does a round of golf at a nice course cost ? Or a steak dinner at a nice restaurant ? At least in most cases you will use the lure for a long time.

We are being taken to the cleaners on these lures now days, do you remember bombers for 1.09 or 25 cent H&H. They caught plenty of fish.
I bought a model A#7 at walmart 4.50, the lure has been made for 35 years, now made in china like everything else, I bet the cost to make it is under 50 cents.

$10 is max !! if I can't fool'em for $4-$7 on a regular basis then I'm sorry that's about it for me.
If it takes a $100 lure to trick a bass into thinking it's a real bait I'm out.

Re: How much will you pay for a lure? - 10/23/15 05:06 PM
I side with the $10 guys. I can't catch anything anyway so why would I spend $hundreds more to not catch? Besides, the day I go to the lake and only lose a couple lures is damm near as good as a day at the lake catching fish.

Re: How much will you pay for a lure? - 10/23/15 05:50 PM
I don't think I've pushed $25 but there are several swim baits that cost more and the bait monkey keeps asking for.

Re: How much will you pay for a lure? - 10/23/15 05:55 PM
Anything over $12-15 and I gotta think real hard on it. If you fish these $$$$ lures in heavy cover your gonna lose a few...adds up quickly.

Re: How much will you pay for a lure? - 10/23/15 08:19 PM
I have bought some $40 baits and some $65 baits. $40 is the most I have spent on a Yellow Magic +1 and $65 on some original Reaction Innovation Vixens. Generally, the YM+1s go for around $20-$25, though, but some of the paint jobs go for $35=$45. Hope this helps. Yep, I bust them off, if I cannot get to them, so there goes a bunch of money, but only when I have too. They all worth every penny as well. Got some Bull Shads, too, that I forgot about, but I know Mike personally and he still doesn't give me a discount. LOL. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

15-17 for a Yellow Magic. At least it is a topwater and very little chance of losing it.

On a semi-regular basis, Vision 110's at $27 but I did pay $300 for one 3:16 Armageddon swimbait after fishing with Mickey Ellis in Cali. I don't throw it tho. It hangs on my wall with my fish.
The ( MOTHER ) from Roman Made in Japan. 500-650.00 Look it up tackle warehouse sells them. Hand made from balsa and suspend. Watch the video !! I wanted one last Christmas the family was going in to get me one !!! SOLD OUT !!

I've got a couple Roman Made Negotiators. I think they were $125 maybe $100. I tried not to look when I bought them haha. I've also got 2 Bull shads. I want a Hinkle BAAAAADDD but maybe if the oilfield picks back up

Caught ALOT on the negotiator and the bull shads both. I first got into the negotiator after spending a day with Brandon Palaniuk. First cast watching the bait in the water made me a believer. Come to find out, ALOT of the pros throw the Negotiators. I know of at least 15 at fork this past TTBC throwing it.

I have several baits in the $200+...But nothing over $300
Once you get into BIG Swim Baits you need to be ready to drop some cash...
It took me a while to get past the price but after making several of my own I see what goes into making a good Glide bait and they are worth every penny to me
I'm probably in the bottom 5% on this opinion...to each his own

I have a few swimbaits that set me back $50. Retail on them is over $100 so I got them on a good deal...
But yeah, getting one of those snagged makes you nervous.

Got that right.
I caught a ton of fish on those old H&H spinnerbaits.
Back in the early 80s there was a tackle store in Arlington called "Outdoors Unlimited". They used to charge $4.99 for a Bagley Balsa wood crankbait. We thought that was outrageous. We called them "Prices Unlimited"

If I "tricked" a fish on a $500 lure I don't ever think I would be able to come to terms with believing it was the fish that was "tricked". :-)

I think I paid $50 for my Lunker Punker and would do it again.
I love seeing that thing get crushed.

< to JPEEL ~20.00 > JPEEL 150.00+ + 4 or 5 times. And for the record I've caught fewer Bass since our first outing than any day before.
