Re: Berkley tournament - 10/05/15 05:38 PM

I'll be there.
I just placed my order for $100 worth of Berkley/Sebile products. I normally use the 10-12" power worms and some of the jig trailers but that's about all of their product that I normally use.
I was reading the story of a previous winner and he said that he used a Frenzy popper to catch the largest under and then another guy stripped down a buzzbait and put on a Berkley skirt to catch his over.
I cant find any skirts or any kind of poppers that Berkley or Sebile makes. I do need something for a topwater bait. I ordered one of the spook type baits buts that all I could find.
Has anyone see Berkley skirts or poppers?

Re: Berkley tournament - 10/05/15 06:11 PM

Only Berkley skirts I've found are either on Berkley jigs or the new Johnson Beetle Spin 'R.

Only topwaters I've found are either Sebile Flat Belly Walkers (Spook-ish) or Sebile Pivot Frogs.

Re: Berkley tournament - 10/05/15 06:42 PM

Ebay and Amazon are the only places I have found jigs. Guess will have to take the skirts off and use them on other baits. Berkley nor Sebile do a good job of manufacturing hard baits. Seams like if Berkley wanted to dominate the market they would produce baits (other that plastic) that fishermen could actually use without having to jerry rig them.

There popper bait was called a Freenzy Pop! I have 5 of them but haven't seen one in years, they were around when the Freenzy series was around!

Re: Berkley tournament - 10/05/15 07:41 PM

They stopped making jigs a couple of years ago. I bought about 500 that year. I've got about 150 left...

Carolina tx rig shaky head or drop shot from sunrise to the end or Arig or crankbait

Re: Berkley tournament - 10/05/15 09:01 PM

One of the baits I expect to be hot is the Sebile Spin Shad. Might have to weed through a bunch of sand bass but this thing should catch a lot of fish given the way the baitfish are setting up right now.

I'll be there with my pops wearing out the 10" bass.

I just got my shipment of plastics that I couldn't find in stores. We'll see how well they work. Still have my Frog from last year, and other various Berkley/Sebile/Johnson baits to work with.

Re: Berkley tournament - 10/06/15 04:38 AM

I've got a couple of the Frenze Poppers on order and have a chance to purchase more. If anyone needs one or several, I will let you have them for my cost plus shipping or ftf in the Sulphur Springs/ lake Fork area.
Cost is $13 each and there are five colors available. shore minnow, baby bass, grey ghost, blue shiner and rainbow trout.
Shoot me a pm before noon tomorrow if interested.

20 bucks ea with shipping if you can find them, I have 5 of the 3/4 oz models, smooth as silk on the end of your line.. Catch fish like crazy too, and hard to lose if you get straight up on top of it and jiggle it, comes loose everytime.. Only way you might lose one is if ya hang a root and don't have enough room for that big head to drop. justsay'n grin

I would love to see the popper bite turn on I have about 10 thanks to Chris Gillroy(thanks buddy) I caught a 2.76 the year before Tommy won his boat with a fish that size,, mine was on a popper. Great action, good as a yellow majic imo... It's going to be a fun event, can't wait to get it going.. Hope to see some of y'all there...

I need some white & white/char spinner bait skirts if anyone wants to sale any..

Re: Berkley tournament - 10/06/15 03:19 PM

Berkley will have their tent set up with all kinds of baits for you to buy.
That is where we got our skirts to put on spinner baits and buzz baits last year.
Still have quite a few jugs and crank baits left over from last year as well
In sure they will have their new lines in there ready for you to buy.

A few years back, the sporting goods stores in England had quite a few of the poppers remaining. Luckily, we had a friend living there...

Sweet, I ordered 2-from VanDam tackle, yes as in Kevin VanDam, not even the ones I really wanted.
It was 15.99 ea + tax + shipping = $40-something. You know how it is, when you want it, you buy it.
I had a hard time finding them..

Yes, terminal tackle can be any brand. You can use any spinnerbait as long as you slap a berkley skirt on it.

You could use any pure-fishing brand in the past. Johnson Spoons and beetle spins SHOULD be allowed.

But I agree the rules say Berkley and Sebile "Exclusively". So I wouldn't mess with them.

I just got off the phone with Bass Champs. (I make the SAME call EVERY year and get the SAME answer. Wish they'd add it to their tournament documentation.)

ANYTHING under the Pure Fishing umbrella, including Johnson, is legal for the Berkley tournament.

If that's the case, they should definitely add it to the rules. That would make more folks happy and create less confusion.

I called them too (before I saw this post); wanted to make sure that my Johnson silver minnow (that must be 30 years old) is still legal.

their phone must be ringing off the wall.
