Well, the only one I haven't at least caught a fish on that I've fished this year was pat mayse... But all that does is make me want to go back and catch a few so I can give it the finger

I can't say that I won't go back to them, but three that I will only fish if a tournament takes me there are:

Tyler
Fork
Granbury

I live 5 minutes from Lake Tyler. I only put my boat in there if I have to. It's overpressured and now that the grass has all been killed I feel lucky if I catch fish there. Fork is, in my opinion, a bigger Lake Tyler. It has improved in recent years so I am probably unfairly judging it at least in part based on how frustrating it was for about a decade starting in the late 90s. Maybe I just hit Granbury at a bad time, but I fished three days there and caught one fish. My partner in the boat with me didn't catch a keeper and our other four team members didn't exactly slay them, either.

I catch more and on average better fish in 15 other lakes than those three.

I'm pretty sure I saw a 28lb sack that won on Arlington Saturday, that's enough reason for me to fish it! (But not enough reason to drive 5 HRs to fish it)

Ross Barnett, Livingston, and Bardwell. Actually have never been to Bardwell to fish. But if a dessert could be compaired to a lake, Bardwell would be the one to compair it with. Part of fishing is being in the outdoors enjoying the surroundings. For UGLY.... Bardwell is the king.

LOL. I feel the same way and I can be at the 64 ramp from my house in 5 minutes.

I didn't know we could list out of state lakes. If so, Ross Barnett is definitely on my list. I caught a three pounder there during a two day tournament and my partner and I celebrated as if we had just won the Powerball.

If you can't figure out how to catch fish on Rayburn or Toledo, you might want to consider selling your boat. But saying that, if you only fish a lake once a year, it's not fair to have great expectations. All lakes can be tough some days, but those two can put a smile on your face real quick.

Re: What lhree lakes make your "Never Go Back" list? - 06/17/15 05:46 PM

I guess it makes a difference when you fished a lake. I spent about 7-8 days on Ross Barnett in 2006 and 3-4 days on Granbury in 2009. Maybe they have gotten better since then.

I like easy lakes full of dumb fish that bite. I fish for fun, not to work trying to find a hidden bunch of fish on an overpressured lake full of highly educated and elusive fish. If I want to work I'll go to my office. It definitely pays better...LOL.

Everyone who said Tawakoni (or a similar spelling!) must have been fishing for the wrong species! I wouldn't go there either to catch LMB... It's a freezer-filler tho when the slime fish are spawning and done good with crappie and trash-bass. Bonham has eaten my lunch and Roberts has eaten my prop AND my lunch! Can't say I wouldn't go back to any of them tho since Athens is so far from Mckinney.

I can only imagine the changes to some of these list prior to the introduction of way too many grass carp. Granbury and pool will shock you. I know I will catch grief for this because there are SOME toads in there but the numbers suck and I can get my boat in Benbrook in five minutes. So I'm going Benbrook x3 on that list of suck. Don't know of any other lake I don't enjoy fishing in the Lone Star State. Don't give me wrong I've caught 10 pound hybrids out of there on my flyrod it's great for that!!!!Who dosnt love ray bob Great Lake right there.
