Do they handle rough water well?

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/14/15 11:03 PM

I have a 2011 with a 150. I love my boat and it's plenty enough to boat for me... The 175 will really help you out also. A half tank of gas just me on a good day I'll get 50 to 55 mph. It's good and stable and the ride is good too. I fished my first skeeters owners and had worries about how bad the lake would be for my boat. It handled like s dream. I was hanging with the big boats! The only complaint about this boat I have is the live wells, they are small no questions asked... I don't tournament fish on a regular basis maybe an open here and there but if you did catch 5 good ones it's going to get really packed for those guys all day.

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/14/15 11:32 PM

I have one with the 175 as well. With just me in it, it'll run about 64 on glass. It is a dry ride, but definitely doesn't run big swells as well as a 21 footer. Of course I'd argue 3 footers aren't any fun in a 21 footer either. I have no complaints about the boat whatsoever.

The livewells are different sized from a 190 say to a 21 footer? Never looked at the capacity.

I have a 96 zx180 that I have restored with 175 and it handles great. It's 18 6" but feels bigger while fishing. You will enjoy it.

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/14/15 11:49 PM

I just bought a TZX 190. Only made two trips on calm days but so far I love it. Plenty of storage for me and plenty of deck space. My last boat was a Champion 191 DC Elite and this boat has more deck space. Mine has a Vmax 150 and will do around 58 top speed which is more than enough for me. Not sure how different the ZX and TZX are.

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/15/15 12:22 AM

I believe it's the same boat but the tzx is not as standard as the Zx, the tzx doesn't come standard with lighted compartments, pump out, also the made the ice chest a storage compartment where mine is under the seat in the middle.... Still a great boat but not not as tourney ready. You can still add the same options to the tzx 190 bug it raises the standard price. I love this boat. When I make e7 I will buy an fx 20!

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/15/15 12:26 AM

Again I don't tourney fish, and still haven't filled all my space. I actually use my under the center seat ice chest as storage and use my left rear storage as a ice chest. I removed the handles from my ice chest and drop a real ice chest for long days. Just because it keeps ice longer than the ice chest on the boat.

Lil Louie yes I would say the lw are bigger as the boat size increases

I have had mine for almost three years now. I still love it.
2012-2014 ZX190s are essentially the same. Great storage. 8ft rods fit in either rod locker. The live wells are plenty big. They are the same size as my buddy's ZX20.
It fishes the same as it's larger brothers. Very stable, large front deck.
With the 175 it's a nimble, quick boat. With a full load, full fuel and full livewells it take a few seconds longer to get on plane. Empty it take about 3 seconds, full it's about 6.
It is a very dry ride even in big stuff. The ride in big swells will depend on the driver. Seat time will teach the best ways and angles to approach rough water. It's a stable ride but can get rough. You may need to ice down your marbles after a long, rough run.

I have a 2013 with a 175 and love it!

Bought a 2010 190 zx a few months ago, so far love it. Plenty of room for me and fished 3 from it once and had little trouble with two on front deck.

I have a ZX 190 and it feels a little small (even without the dual console). My buddy has a 21 footer and it rides and fishes better. He caught bigger fish out of his old Nitro though banana

I forgot to mention the HPDI 175 is practically bullet proof. Mine has been very reliable. I use Yamalube, Ring Free, and Yammie Fuel Stabilizer. I'm sure other products will work but for me these have worked.

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/15/15 08:47 PM

Does this one interest you at all? It is a TZX190 with a Yamaha Vmax 150. I have seriously been debating on selling or not. It would be more than 15K if I do sell her. Thoughts or an offer to ponder?

I'll let you know if the deal I have working falls through. It's a good looking rig. What year? Hours?

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/15/15 09:17 PM

It is a 2005 and that engine doesn't read hours from what I was told when i bought it.

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/15/15 09:29 PM

I bought a 2002 ZX190 new and other than the usual small things that occasionally need to be replaced or repaired the entire boat has held up extremely well and runs even better than it did when I bought it. Carpet is still in great shape with no thinning or bald spots. Original leather seats are all in great shape. All buttons, gauges, and pumps still work great. Gelcoat looks practically new. Granted, I wax it twice a year, wipe it down after every outing and keep it in the garage. Excellent gas mileage (I fished all over Lake Fork for the last 1 1/2 days and used maybe a 1/4 of a tank) Probably sounds like I am trying to sell my boat but I'm not-just talking to the overall quality of the boat. You will definitely like the ZX190. I really only have two complaints-the ice chest under the passenger seat which I think has been moved in newer models and I would go with a single console. Although I hear resale value is slightly higher in a dual console, I sure wish I had the extra room to maneuver around in.

Big Mouth Brett - nice crappie killer ride!

Oh yea - welcome to the TFF!

What area are you in? Texas for sure, right - but where; what lakes do you fish?

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/16/15 01:36 PM

I live in Arlington. Only had the boat about 4 months or so and have not been able to get out much. Fished Arlington, Joe Pool and Fork a few times so far.

Bought the 2005-190(shown below) 5 years ago and I have had no problems with it, its just a good stable boat,I use it 2 or 3 times each week on average.

Does the dual console make it feel small?

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/16/15 07:10 PM

I have a 190 with the 175vmax. It also has dual consoles. If I could go back I would likely not have gotten the dual consoles (wife doesn't go enough to justify the loss of space). Other than that the boat has been great for the last few years. Handles any water I want to be out in and goes as fast as I should likely be going in a boat that size. Holds a good amount of gear. Careful with the rod box if you fish really long rods and want to keep them stored in the boat for long periods... not sure they aren't curving at the tip a bit. I just take my long rods out when I am not on the water.

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/17/15 01:02 AM

And I thought it was just me. I bought my boat with the agreement that I had a passenger console because she didn't like the handles. Now ask me how many times she has been in the boat and I am embarrassed to say. Answer would be 1. Boat is 3 years old.

Re: Skeeter ZX190 - 06/17/15 01:11 AM

I have a 08 zx 190 and it has been very reliable. I can't imagine a better first boat for me. Fishing the skeeter tourney with my 11 and 14 year old sons makes me want a 20 ft skeeter boat.
