And, David, what of hyphenating compound words?

But, you may criticize me for starting two sentences with coordinating conjunctions, a common mistake by grammar and spelling police.

All in fun; I love finding mistakes in posts regarding others' mistakes.

Anyway, I'm back at it trying to learn how to tie a polymer knot.

Do you realize that we've had to concede to the ignorant? Preventative is now in the dictionary! Granted, it just says see: Preventive but it's there. It seems that if enough knuckle heads use it, instead of correcting them, we just add it to the dictionary so that Merriam Webster (or whoever) can say that they have more entries.

My daughter used to say "supposably" to which I would correct her and ask her to not sound mentally challenged and say the word correctly. She told me to look it up and guess what? Supposably is also in the dictionary! Drives me crazy....

Advice and advise gets my goat too.

As mentioned.... If you could care less about something it means you do care! bang

I get all worked up but my mother taught grammar and was always correcting me. Now I'm saddled with the same bad habit. I have seven gals that work for me and I think they are plotting my murder sometimes.

Funny thread.

P.S. I still catch myself calling them perch.

Looking at ‘flourcarbon’, it actually seems quite logical if you’ve never seen a newspaper or read a book and have no idea what the word is meant to look like. The only conclusion I can come to is that some folks can write but not read. If you've read this entire post and aren't flat on the ground laughing you probably deserve a medal for keeping a straight face..... flehan

Dude straight up catches them. People can say he gets all the help in the world, but you don't do what he does on help alone. Again, the whole "help" thing is the most overblown thing in our sport at that level.

Like I said, I'd be willing to make a wager that he wins another Classic in the next 5 years.

Re: there is no such thing as... - 06/12/15 07:41 PM

I never saw the need in correcting someone's grammar or spelling.

Some people didn't finish school when they were younger and went to work instead. I know this is definitely true about most of my family back home. My dad was only 1 of 2 out of 8 kids that finished high school. All quit school to enter the work force.

My mother had 1 brother that graduated out of 4 siblings.

Just because you don't know how to use correct grammar and spelling does not make one dumb.

Many of these people may have forgotten more than we will ever know about fishing, so if I can understand what they are saying, that is good enough for me. I would much rather them share their knowledge than to feel unwelcomed and not post at all.

There is a difference between correction a child that is still in school and a grown adult.

If you can understand what they are saying it should be good enough.

Now journalists writing about the amphibious pitcher that just made is MLB debut, is a bit much. But there you have it, professional journalists make mistakes too.
