Oriented vs. Orientated
Preventive vs. Preventative
I couldn't care less vs. I could care less.
All I need vs. Alls I need
This list goes on and on.
Do you realize that we've had to concede to the ignorant? Preventative is now in the dictionary! Granted, it just says see: Preventive but it's there. It seems that if enough knuckle heads use it, instead of correcting them, we just add it to the dictionary so that Merriam Webster (or whoever) can say that they have more entries.
My daughter used to say "supposably" to which I would correct her and ask her to not sound mentally challenged and say the word correctly. She told me to look it up and guess what? Supposably is also in the dictionary! Drives me crazy....
Advice and advise gets my goat too.
As mentioned.... If you could care less about something it means you do care!
I get all worked up but my mother taught grammar and was always correcting me. Now I'm saddled with the same bad habit. I have seven gals that work for me and I think they are plotting my murder sometimes.
Funny thread.
P.S. I still catch myself calling them perch.
