Lake Fork Electronics Guide

Lake Fork Electronics Guide - 06/01/15 03:43 PM

Met Slade Dougharty Sunday morning to see if he could get some issues with my Lowrance graphs cleared up and was in awe of what he can do with a graph. He got them dialed in so clearly it was hard to believe what they look like now. He also showed me how to get the most out of some of the features available on ths HDS's that i'd never used. It was time well spent, I'd definately recommend him.

Slade is real good, he helped my Son&Law out with a KVD 1199 thumb
Funny how these new units can pass you by with all the options and mode's etc..
Come to think of it, I know I could use his help too..

Looks like Slade needs to put some info in the Trading Post section.
Could get some bookings. I'd like help with my Lowrance as well.

Someone asked about his number, I'm not sure if its ok to just post someone's number without their permission so if you want it PM me and I will give it to you. He is without a doubt a top notch electronics guide.

I think it's around $250. I haven't ever used him but know a few guys that have and they had nothing but good things to say.

Have a question
I have lowrance gen 2 touch at console with side scan. Just got new MG ix5 trolling motor which do I need for the front lowrance gen 2 touch with or without ss or transducer? Iam also wanting to network them.

Re: Lake Fork Electronics Guide - 12/12/15 10:01 PM

You can put any HDS model you wish at the bow and still network. Having a Touch unit at the console doesn't make any requirement for which generation or model you put at the bow. Your console Touch unit has the LSS processor built in, and if you want to see that same info on the HDS at the bow, the Ethernet network cable will provide that.

You'll want a 2D transducer at the bow on the TM, which may be built into your new MG unit. So, the bow unit can be any HDS model, and it will probably have 3 cables: power, Ethernet, 2D transducer. NMEA network is an optional 4th cable depending on what hardware you have on your boat.

You'll need to take care in configuration of each unit so that you don't select the option to simply see a clone of the other unit's screen. (You want to be looking at each unit's local 2D transducer.)

If you think about it, that bow unit is only used when you are practically still or moving no faster than the TM will take you. Do you really need the fastest model/processor for that? (Absolutely not.) My view as a designer who has worked with sonar is that any HDS generation or model is actually quite serviceable for what's typically desired at the bow.....unless you just want another Touch unit and a thinner wallet. I find I don't tinker with my bow unit nearly as much as I do the Touch unit at my console, so my bow doesn't have a Touch unit.
