C-Rig Leader how Do you Decide?

C-Rig Leader how Do you Decide? - 05/30/15 08:22 PM

ok I know there are many different lengths you can put for a leader on your C-Rig. Question is how do you decide what length to Use. I know you want the weight to kick up mud to make your bait looking like its chasing something on the bottom. Also, the length can decide how high you bait is off the bottom if you have a bait that floats, but what is really the deciding factor on the length.

Thanks for all responses!
May your next bass be your Personal Best!

In general: the colder the season, the shorter the leader. January/February many of those deep bass are hugging the bottom and they'll hit a crig at times as a reaction bite--weight knocking gets their attention and they strike the closely following bait.

Grass = long leader. 3 feet or longer.

It means a lot of re-ties but sometimes you just have to experiment and let the fish tell what's best. Also, vary your retrieve distance. One day I was retrieving about 3 ft. at a time without any bites. I shortened my retrieve to one foot and it was game on. Who knows what a fish is thinking? Good luck!

Good question. I always start at about 3 feet and go form there.

Never been a fan of the C-rig but I fish it. It simply works. I use about a 36" leader for about everything. Just my opinion but don't over think it. I rarely find a reason to change leader lengths regardless of finesse, 12" worm, deep, shallow....

Start out at about 30-36 inches and every 15 to 20 casts cut off about 3-6 inches and tie the hook back on. Sooner or later you'll find the best length.

Short leader for brush piles 12-14".

24-36" typical.

Bullet weights for brush, Lindy weights for rock and egg sinkers the rest of the time.

If you use tungsten weights use a plastic bead. The tungsten weight will shatter glass beads.

Don't use braid around rip-rap. The rip-rap will slice the braid.
