Sleeping at a boat ramp allowed?

Sleeping at a boat ramp allowed? - 05/11/15 02:49 PM

I'm traveling a good distance during the night to fish the next morning, is it allowed to sleep a few hours in my truck in the parking lot of a boat ramp in a Texas state park?

Texas A&M fishing team did it all the time while I was in school. We would fish Friday afternoon, go get something to eat, then set up camp. Some guys slept in their truck. I slept on the deck of my boat. Some of the guys would string up their own hammocks between the truck and boats and sleep there. Never had any problems with it.

If it is in a State Park, it is technically a "day-use" area. They could give you grief about it. Usually only in State Parks with Campgrounds would this be a major issue. Other public access ramps can be patrolled by TPWD or DPS, depending on the area. You will probably get a nice wake-up and a polite warning at most.

Done it at ivie, oak creek... depends on the ramp though... Some places "close" at a certain time... If your not loud and obnoxious and don't draw attention to yourself you'll be fine

Best option is to call the Park. They may have a gate that's locked during the night.
No combo may mean you can't even get to the ramp until business hours.
Also, with storms several ramps are currently closed.
Just a thought.

"allowed", probably not

as long as you don't draw attention to yourself they probably won't hassle you though

I slept on the boat deck while my dad and his buddy bedded down in the back of a tahoe at the public ramp on fork. I was covered in dew and a bit cold, but I out fished em both!
