I'm worried about using straight braid without a leader and here's a video of a guy hand-catching a "12 pounder" holding a baitfish in the water off the side of a dock. SMH.

WHAT?! Would've never believed it had it not been on video. That's just crazy.

Thats a fed fish.
Back in the 70's I was up with a friend at the Champion plant picking up a boat and we went to the Bulls Shoals Marina across from the dam. They had a crawfish cage in the water and they would rattle the cage and several very large smallmouth would appear. They fed them daily and were their pets.
You could put your finger in the water and the fish would try to make off with it.

This isn't the first time I see someone catching bass with their bare hands. However, when I first saw this the person doing it had nightcrawlers. Still pretty amazing.
