Thoughts on night baits?

So recently got to thinking about how I've been successful night fishing and the baits that I have faired best with.
I believe all the hype of blk/Blu baits is only favorable on the nights when illumination is less that 25% and your throwing bottom baits. I belive this helps in color contrast from the bottom e.g clay rock etc.

I rarely ever use Blk/Blu and have found best success with believe it or not. Natural baits. Grn/pmk jigs, craw colored cranks. I belive also bass feed very heavy at night on craws. I have had little to no luck trying shad colored Cranks!

What are others thoughts on this?

I have worked with fisherman on Lake Amistad that night fished. I build the deep ledge spinner baits for them to fish the ledges in 10 to 20 ft. at night they all caught bass from 8 to 10 lbs. during the week they were there.

The natural color swim baits in 6" are also very productive along with the 10" Wag-Tail worms.

I normally throw a red or orange crankbait. I have also had luck with a chartreuse/blue or black backed CB as well. I have had a lot of luck recently throwing a Quickbaits air craw in Green Pumpkin Mardi Gras flecks. Normally, something that throws a shadow. I have had good luck with red shad at night, as well. I have caught fish on just about every color while fishing at night. I think its crazy that throwing a black lure at night a fish is going to see better than another color. Then again we really don't know how our vision compares to a fish underwater. I think its the lateral line taking over during the night but thats just me.

This makes sense to me. Bass feeding at night probably use their vibration and smell senses more/sight less. Plastic craws and creatures have appendages that flap and displace lots of water relative to a skinny standard worm. Bass are probably less likely to chase down a swimming prey at night and would prefer to eat a slower moving craw. I've read from previous posters that color almost doesn't matter at all at night, so they use plastics in colors they don't like to use during the day.

I like a dark profile for surface lures at night. They seem to be able to image it better as they are looking up. I have caught lots of bass at night on a black bladed/black skirted spinner bait slow rolling it just under the surface next to the grass lines.

On the deep ledges most any color has worked and I have caught just as many on down sized willow blades as opposed to the bigger Colorado blades. They are nocturnal and can pick up the slightest vibration and sound at night. Deep water bass feed this way all the time any way. Past 20 ft. in most lakes it is total darkness. But here again Big Bass want a big bite and they are not easily fooled day or night in deep water. There is just more feeding going on at night with the huge bass. I still try to match the size bait fish with a little flash of the blades and a lot of Minnow scent to get that bite.

As long as your bait is carrying everything possible for the bite to take place then you have done everything you can do. This being sight, sound, vibration, taste, and scent.
