The speed that he can grab a fish, remove the hook and fire back into the same spot is crazy!

I'm no pro, but switching hands and casting in the same place over and over are the things I've been scolded about, however, he's a pro, and it looked cool!

Teach me...I was wondering why he's so far back from the bank casting toward it. I know there's open water to attack, but it seemed "really far" from his gopro pov. Maybe I'm missing something.

maybe I missed it, but I am surprised that he just straight cast and reel. I would have thought he would have put some erratic action into the bait from time to time.

He is searching for the active fish. When the bait hits something and deflects, it triggers the bite. Once the fish are fired up, all you have to do is get the bait back in there as fast as you can.

Ok biggest thing I noticed about him fishing those docks, is he is a LONG cast from them... and that he is fishing a decent way out past them... its interesting...

I bet his right hand cranks the air while he is asleep.

I don't see how he can wear that big heavy watch and cast like that all day with it. I wear a watch while fishing but nothing like that.

It was a Major League Fishing show. Smaller boats with 150's for all.

A buddy and I watched him for about 10 minutes when there were on grapevine! I swear he made 150 cast in the that short time span! He was chunking a 1/4oz trap! Dude makes a Bunch of casts

He is supposedly unflappable and it shows in at least 2 points on the video: 1) when the dude was costing him several casts early on when he used time to "zero out" the scale; 2) and, when he dropped the fish at the end. KVD never expressed any frustration. Brad

He fishes exactly opposite of how I do. I would have made 5-10 casts at that point and been gone. It is juts in my nature to be moving around, unless I am Carolina rigging a point or something.

I'm just joking when I say this. He reminds me of some meth heads I worked with when I was younger. After a hit of that S--t. It's was balls to the wall. But I'm going to try that approach in the morning when I go fishing. I'm not try to say he's on meth.

Not like he does from 10:30 to 10:50. I'm about to start trying though. I see a few string trick hook removals in the future.

I don't fish a crankbait much but when throwing a spinnerbait its sometimes short casts and no wasted motion.

I have a KVD story, of sorts. Back in the early part of the century my traveling partner was the co-boater with him at Sam Rayburn in a BASS tourney. Van Dam was in first place the first day and he was catching them on deep divers in between a couple hydrilla patches. While waiting for the start Kevin looked at the DD22's Billy was throwing and offered to change the hooks out for him. So in the boat waiting to go he changed out several baits for his triple grips. When they got to the fish they pretty much fished together but KVD casted farther and knew the exact location of the weed line so he kept catching the big ones. Billy said he'd cast as many times but KVD would catch a 4 pounder, he would catch a keeper. Over and over.
