Need some help!!!! - 04/26/15 12:32 AM
Just got my uncles boat out of the barn for the first time since 2001. It is a Skeeter 175 Limited Edition with a Johnson GT 150. It has dust all in the Carpet but is in pretty goo condition considering it has not seen the light of day in 14 years. What is it worth?

Better change that 14 year old water pump and any old fuel lines. If it has any problems running stop right away and get it looked at. Most boats that sit that long end up having problems and can easily blow the motor if not addressed quickly.

Really depends on how well the boat cleans up, whats not working and what shape the engine is in after sitting that long. I would think if everything is in great shape it could go $8-9,000 at the very top end. If it has problems it could be way less though. If the motor needs rebuilding its not worth much at all.

What you are going to find is all the wiring in and around the motor will become brittle when it gets hot again. It will take time but the rubber will begin to crumble away on the wires. It has been sitting a long time at 13 -14 years even though it probable doesn't have very many hours on it.
The gel-coat will need lots of attention also with the boat not being covered all these years. If you sell it as is then your buyer is taking a real chance. Top price would be $4,500.
If you guys spend a little money ($1,500) on it and bring it back to life then you may get $6,500 and your buyer will be much happier.
