Favorite Knot - 04/23/15 06:06 PM

I know this subject hits quit often but I'm tying a new to me knot (Trilene). I've always used the Palomar or Improved Clinch and was wondering the thoughts of others. Thanks

That's all I use...it's never failed for me!

Its a good knot but I still find the palomar to be the most reliable for me. You know what they say, "if it aint broke don't fix it."

I've actually been thinking of switching to the palomar knot. Hear good things about it. Use Trilene now and if you don't cinch it down tight, it will come loose.

Braid, trilene every time unless I snell the hook... It is has preformed much better than palomar for me, when u tie it leave a long tag to cinch it good and you will never have one come loose. 6 wraps minimum for mine, generally 7 cause that just feels right

Flouro- double uni, blows anything else away once you learn to tie it.

I pretty much use the San Diego Jam or Double SDJ for just about everything now (don't use braid).

Palamour for braid... Improved clinch know for everything else.

Both have been fine knots, no issues at all.

San Diego Jam knot has become my favorite. Palomar is still the old standby.

99% Palomar=simple to make, can tie it in less than 7 sec, can be used with every line types available, never had a Palomar break.

I use the double SDJ knot 80% of the time now. It's the only knot I trust with fluorocarbon or flouro coated lines like P-line. I use the palomar on my big mono rigs like squarebills and topwater, as well as straight braid applications.

Double improved clinch knot for me - for 30 years. When I learned to drop shot - I use the Palomar.

A Palomar is so simple, great for empty hooks, less so if you are tying on a 6" lure with several treble hooks dangling. A Uni or San Diego Jam would seem better for something like that.

"Uni" is short for universal and I think it is the greatest broad application knot:

1) You can use it for hooks/terminal tackle;
2) You can use it for big lures;
3) You can use it as an arbor knot to tie line to your reel;
4) You can use it as a loop knot for lure wiggle;
5) You can use it to tie two lines together (easily).

And, you can "double" it.

Learn one knot and you have solved 5 or more common applications.

*** If you are a young dude, taking a cute girl out fishing for the first time (or vice versa) and showing off, nothing looks "cooler" than tying a San Diego Jam letting a swinging lure twirl itself into a knot.

There: an easy knot, a broad application knot and a cool knot.

Palomar
You can tie it with numb fingers

Palomar for me 100% of the time for everything, never an issue.

Palomar or Fishin fool for hooks and smaller baits.
Double Pitzen for jigs, and large baits heavy baits.
