As of recent, level has been the only issue. Great lake, has produced two sharelunkers along with a 14 pound record some years back. You might run into some schools of sandies and spotted bass while there too. New side is typically clear ad deep, old side is shallower and has more grass. It was listed in the Top Ten of the best bass lakes in Texas as far as keeper sized fish go a couple years back...lots of 2 to 4 pounders in there! I always stick with cranks and power worms. Never too crowded really. If you think you could launch, I'd say go for it. If just going to shoreline fish, i would say definitely go for as right now you can walk pretty much everywhere with low levels. I fish it about once a month when I can.

I have always had much better luck on new side. More timber, better cover for them to strike from, clarity. I think the bass feel they can catch a meal easier on the new side. Old side I have found is better for sandies and cats. Put it this way, my biggest bass on the old side has maybe been a 2. Biggest on new side was a 6.

Both fish really good but very differently! Caught a 12.80 on the new side and a 10.00 on the old side! Water level is the issue but a great little lake! I've never caught a spotted bass out there but it does have monster sandies and very healthy crappie population! I think the old side consist of more 4-7 average and the new side has an awesome 2-4 lb average with a better chance of 8+ but they fight harder on the new side! Pick your poison but a really fun small lake!

Best days I have had were all on the old side, couple 20+ lb sacks.

Amon G. Carter is a gem. Love it, I mainly fish the new side. My dad and I have fished the day after Thanksgiving for about 12 years now for catfish and we slay them. My son's personal best LMB 8.5lber came from there.
