Ray Bob Spawn

Ray Bob Spawn - 04/17/15 01:04 PM

Not looking for anyone's honey holes. Just curious in the state of the spawn on Ray Bob. I was there last week and saw no cruisers, fry or beds. Just curious from the regulars if the majority of the fish have spawned or not. Also how dirty is the water since the rise this week.

Thanks in advance!

since I'm not a seasoned angler on roberts I'll just tell you what I've been told-

"Roberts is one of the last north texas lakes to really kick off. Right now you're going to find pre spawn, spawning, and post spawn fish. A couple of the creeks have already had a big wave of spawners while some of the others are just getting good."

Im new to the lake myself and have been focusing on the buck creek area down to pierce branch. The Last couple of weeks we caught several females who were still full of eggs. This week fishing the same area every female we caught had spawned out. Water temperatures last week had been between 68 and 74 degrest before this week's rain and dropped to a fairly consistent 63 degrees on Wednesday. The coves further up into Buck that had been producing were chocolate, but further out towards pierce it cleared up a bunch. I'm going to focus on some of the northern creeks the next couple weeks as I'm told the water clarity is much better.

Hope that helps a little!

The fish have not spawned south of airplane cove in my opinion unless they spawned out the week or off limits for bass champs. I just can't see that one week everything move up then disappear.

Thanks for you advice gents. I have only fished the lake a handful of times but have had some success. All of the lakes in my part of the world are bone dry.

I was out there during champs and just shocked I could not see any cruisers, fry or fish in beds.

Thanks again!

When I was out there last week, the Carp were tearing it up in the shallowest of shallows all over Sand Branch. They were everywhere behind the newly flooded brush.

Water was too stirred up for me to see through it much. Never spotted any bed fish, cruisers, or fry.

As I understand it, the bass spawn is over once the carp spawn begins. I sure hope that's not the case here.

Carp spawning doesn't mean the bass are done... There are still spawners on north end of Palestine! The carp thrashed around up there a month ago!

Re: Ray Bob Spawn - 04/23/15 02:35 PM

So after almost 2 weeks of rain and semi cold fronts, do we think there is one more wave to come with the next full moon, or does anybody think they have spawned under our nose since the muddy water has made it very hard to see? It seems like a ghost town out there right now, or maybe I just really suck at this. I am constantly asking myself if I am too shallow, or not shallow enough as I am not seeming to find them this past 2 weekends shallow, or on the first drops, or main and secondary points. Anybody having luck right now?

Been my slowest spring out there in 4 years. Was on em pretty good in Pierce a few weeks ago. Then it just quit. Caught two in Sand monday eve. Way back in the back. Way back. Just been slow. Milfoil is harder to find, and in deeper water. Without the grass congregating them, its definitely been more difficult. Still hoping the newly flooded stuff will turn on, and load up. Sure does look good.

From what I'm seeing in smaller shallower lakes (some of these lakes are already over 80 degrees water temp), there is a third wave of spawners just now moving up. There have been carp and gar spawning for over a month now, and saw shad starting to spawn last week. In the shallows the last three weeks, been seeing lots of fry and catching mostly males guarding and cruising. Monday and yesterday, started catching females with full bellies cruising shallow again.

I saw the first evidence of bass spawning on Roberts all year last weekend.

As far north as Indian and Airplane and as far south as Cate's. Fish on beds and cruisers everywhere.

Up until that point all the females I've caught in the last 7 weeks out there were pre-spawn

I'm not saying fish hadn't moved up previously, but I don't think the spawn is anywhere near done out there
