I've been really pleased with the Shimano Cumara 7'2 MH Jig/Worm Rod. This is the first year I've owned the rod, and I bought it specifically for fishing senkos and light t-rigs. I had a chance to fight a 6.5 pounder in the timber not too long ago and it handled every aspect perfectly. I was able to pitch a weightless wacky senko, the thump felt like a train had run into my bait, and I felt like I had control of the fish throughout. I've fished some of the other light worms on a split shot and t-rig with it and it works well with those also.

7'3"MH kistler KLX for weightless
7'MH kistler helium for t-rig
I like the mod/fast tip on the 7'3" because it loads up nicely when casting the weightless t-rigs

Dobyns Champion Extreme

I like the DX 703 C. I use this high dollar rod because sometimes a senko bite is very faint.

Medium, mod. fast. Originally planned to use the rod for cranking, but it was a little whippy. So, I use it for weightless t-rig: Flukes or Senkos. Seems to work well, I don't fish it in heavy cover that way, but it loads nicely for a good long cast, and imparts the action I want to put on the bait. I am probably wrong, but it works (so far)!

I like a 7'3" MH Fast with 15# floro paired with a 7:1/1 reel, I can cast a weightless senko or fluke a long way, move a lot of line for a good hook set and pick up line in a hurry if the fish is coming back at the boat.

Re: Senko rod - 04/01/15 02:58 AM

I use a Dobyns Champion 703. If you don't want to spend that kind of money, I also have a Falcon Lowrider weightless worm rod in the arsenal. This Falcon was a quick purchase this time last year when I was traveling and needed a rod specifically for wacky senkos. I have to admit that I have been extremely pleased with the Falcon. It can cast a wacky rig against the wind, detect the slightest pickups and wrestle a couple of 7+ lb fish out of some thick cover.

I use a Kistler z-bone 7'6" 3 power. I pair it with Lews Tournament Lite. 15 lb Invisx. It's the perfect set up.

Powell Diesel 6103 medium, x-fast and a Diawa Legalis 2500SH spooled up with 16lb. Hi-vis (yellow) braid. Use a fluoro leader, anywhere from 6-17lb. tied on with an Albright knot. Casts any size senko like a bullet. Let a 3"-6" Senko free fall on slack line....watch your line closely for any movement. Works like a champ.

Re: Senko rod - 04/02/15 05:06 AM

A 7'-7'3 inch medium action xfast for smaller senkos, and a 7'-7'3'' medium heavy fast or xfast action for bigger senkos. Maybe even a heavy action rod for the 7'' senko, they weigh like an oz. I use the G loomis NRX 7'1'' medium xfast spinning
