Good deed for the day

Well to start off I'm not trying to toot my own horn, I just wanted to share a experience I had today. I stopped in tlc hardware in gainesville last Friday to check on a culling ball set. I honestly hadn't been in the store in ten years or more and was shocked at the amount of tackle they had on the shelves and the prices were very good. I found a culling set and a few bags of plastics and proceeded to check out. The owner was busy and a friend of the owner checked me out so I didn't have to wait. I handed him my debit card, signed my recipt and headed on my way. Later that night when I was organizing my new tackle I realized they didn't charge me for 5 items. I told my wife about it and wrote down the prices for the items I wasn't charged for. I had planned to go back and settle up on the unpaid items Monday, but with all the hail damage, roof repair, body shop, and work issues I finally had time today. The walked in found the owner and explained the situation and let them know I really wanted to pay for the items. She was very insistent that it was their mistake and I dint owe them anything. She said she was very happy that I was willing to settle up but she wasn't accepting my payment. We went back and forth for a while and came to a agreement that she would let me pay half. So I did and bought more tackle. Lol. As I drove home I made the decision that that store will be my first stop anytime I need tackle or fishing supplies. You sure can't beat family owned and operated customer service. My payment for being honest was a couple free crank baits and I feel I still got more than I paid for.

I miss that personal touch of a family owned business. Bass Pro and Academy don't have a clue.

Used to have a hunting lease just outside Gainesville. The folks at TLC have always been super nice to me whenever I stopped in. Even caught them as they were trying to close one Saturday and they still let me in to do my shopping. Fine folks there.

That's good stuff right there. I enjoy hearing stories like these. Good job. Sounds like a cool store.

Last year I went to Bass Pro in Garland around Christmas time. I bought several items. One of the items was a Northface jacket for my wife. I looked at the receipt that night and noticed they didn't charge me for it... I didn't notice at the time of checkout, because I had spent close to a grand. I went back the next day to the CS desk and told them about it and said I needed to pay for it. The lady looked at me like I was crazy. She said she had never heard of anyone doing this. I paid and left. I would have a hard time sleeping knowing I had something I didn't pay for. You did the right thing.

I'll be close to Gainsville this weekend (Caddo-LBJ grasslands). Might have to stop by and see what they've got. I'll be close enough to stop by Fischer's Market in Muenster. Sounds like a good road trip to me.

I had six reels repaired at Southwest. I signed my invoice without looking at the price. When I got home I noticed that they only charged me for the baits that I bought. I was laughing with a buddy and he said "they make so much money" don't worry about it. I couldn't take it so I called them and had them charge my CC for the reel repairs. Needless to say, my next trip was to Mexico. I had the best fishing trip of my life - El Salto. Two fish over 11. Three fish over 9 and several fish over 8.

That is a good story. Like others, I do miss the old tackle stores of my youth and the owners knew you and added a personal touch. I remember saving up my allowance to go buy one or two lures. I remember the owners always treating me like I was a regular customer. Sure miss that.
