How do you guts set these up? What size line? And on a side note, what's your favorite brand/model of jerkbait?

Do you guys prefer mono or fluorocarbon? gear ratio? And is medium action everyone rod of choice?

I use fluoro and 10lb at max. but now that I'm in Florida I'll probably lose some on 10 lb. I don't like to fish it on anything heavier. At Tablerock I use 6lb.

I like them on flouro. Too much stretch in mono. Use a loop knot so you get better action.

12-15lb fluoro on a 7' med rod. I love the new ones from Spro... Great colors but kind of pricey

Power Tackle PG143 6'10" rod, 10-12lb floro, high speed reel. Twitch it with slack in you line, do not pull the bait with line tight, it gives it a better side to side action. Also, suspending jerk bait in the colder months worked slower with a pause, and a floater worked faster when the water temp is higher. Spro or Lucky Craft are my two main choices but there are a lot of good jerkbaits on the market.

So would a Palomar knot impede the action? Kind of my goto knot.

I use a 7' Castaway short handle saltwater rod. It is a medium with a moderate fast action, revo stx and 10-12lb fluoro. I dont think you can get any better then the Megabass Vision 110. I also love the Rouge.

Best jerk bait I've used in awhile. I've been throwing mine on a St Croix Mojo 6'6 rod with 20lb power pro.

no its a good knot, with practice you will find different knot work better. but in the end a Palomar is a good knot

Same thing applies to rods and length, a person that is 5 foot 11 will use a shorter rod than a person 6 foot 5

Megabass VISION ONETEN

Line depend on lure weight – usually at clear water – thinner.

It doesn't get much better than a Megabass 110. 8-12# Sunline Shooter flourocarbon, 7ft medium or medium heavy, fast action, Dobyns Champion Series rod, and a Shimano core.

I like the XRap, Xcalibur Eeratic shad, and the Lucky Craft Pointer SP in any length. Use 12-15 lb flouro and a nice Med 6'6" rod. Hold on tight.
