That sounds about right. Drop your buddy, water and gas and you might get 65 out of here.

Re: 18 ft bass boat top speed? - 06/06/13 02:55 AM

This is my educated guess based on research - Fastest current models of 18 foot boats with 150s are approx in order - Basscat Margay and Sabre, Phoenix 618, Triton 18 Pro (not xs), Skeeter zx190, then the heavier 18'8" boats Stratos VLO, Triton 18xs, Nitro Z7 and Ranger 118. With the Margay and Sabre being mid 60s and the Z7 and 118 realistically topping out at about 58 - 60.

Though the VLO with an Evinrude HO tested around 62-63 I still think real world load you're still looking at the range above.

I don't know anything about Charger's new 18'1" boat or whether Legend will still sell an 18'6" boat. Those two would trend to the higher range.

I have gotten 62 out of my Triton 18 Pro with the 150 Pro xs. That's with about a half tank of fuel and empty live well. I did it most recently with just me but I can do it with 2.

I think I need to raise my jack plate a little more and I should be able to get a little more trim before the chine walk gets bad.

61 with 2 people and a load is great for that setup , my sabre with me and no load will hit 66 and 62 with a load

Re: 18 ft bass boat top speed? - 06/06/13 03:02 AM

I have a Nitro 800 lxs with a merc xr6 150 and I'm running 70 mph (gps) and expecting mid 70's with some future upgrades.

Re: 18 ft bass boat top speed? - 06/06/13 03:04 AM

My old Champion 181 with a 150 merc would run 57-60 GPS fully loaded with gear and 2 people with a 23 tempest. Could've squeezed more if I took out extra tackle weight, anchors and stuff then dialed it in.

a quarter tank of gas no water and a 25 tempest by my self saw 66.8 and with a buddy 64. light load and it rockets out of the hole with the 25. I really like an 18 to 19 foot boat for back water maneuverability. and really love everything about this boat.

I have a ZX190, 18'5 w/175.
On a cold day I hit 67.1 by myself half fueled and empty livewells. Most of the time I'm around 62-63 with two people and moderate tackle. If I really pack in the tackle and fuel I get 60 with full livewells on a hot day.

82 champion 184, 96 johnson 175 fast strike (with a few mods), 24 raker worked by steve, 8" hyd jackplate, and I can get 69-70 empty, loaded with 2 and lots of tackle about 65-66 gps.

Skeeter SX 186 with 150 VMax. I GPS about 58 with a full gas tank, tournament load, and myself. About 55 with a partner and all his gear.

My 19 foot boat goes 85.6. That is 1/4 tank gas, just me and 1 rod and a bag of flukes. Unlike these nitro's and legends I will prove it. No nitro with 150 hp is hitting 70 anywhere but on the trailer.

Re: 18 ft bass boat top speed? - 06/06/13 08:16 PM

I have a 1996 19'6" Nitro 896 with a 1997 Mercury 150 EFI. New it would run 63.8 with a 23 Trophy or a 25 Yamaha Pro-V These days about 57.4 is all I can swing with the old gal. Currently running a 23 Pro-V and 57.4 GPS was attained about 2 hours ago. I think that with a fresh Trophy or 25 Pro-V I could still hit 60. This is a 1700# hull and it runs about the same as most 18 footers with a 150. Don't make sense to me, but it always has. Heard that the 1997 Merc EFI motors were some of the stoutest, maybe that's the deal?

depends on the conditions of the water, the wind, and the amount of mass on the boat. also, the power of the motor.

I had a Tidecraft Wildfire in the early 90's that would hit 75 with a Merc 150 and a 27p prop. Cheap, light, scary, chine walking piece of junk! Sure was fun!

2005 17.6 strados 275 pro xl 115 johnson loaded two people 50
no passengers loaded 55. 1/2 tank fuel plenty fast for me. I had a Skeeter Starfire SS150 with pro v 150 super 4 prop jack plate and trimmed up would do 73-75 way too fast for me!

Only had it to 5500rpm once , but my '97 Javelin 379 with a 150 Evinrude Intruder with two people, 1/4 tank gas and tackle hit 68 speedo, probably about 62 GPS. 25" prop

I know this has strayed from its original purpose and turned into a swinging d$#k contest but from what the others are saying it sounds about right. My boat with the stock XR4 150 ran like 56 with a 23 tempest so IMO it sounds about right. And congrats on the new boat! cheers A new boat trumps speed any day!

Yeah, Well My 198- Something John Boat Will Do 2-3 Mph (Just My Best Guess) With Another Person, Tackle And Paddles. As Long As Were Both Paddling. And While You're Running Across The Lake At 80 Mph, I'm Gonna Be Fishing. Cause You Can Bet I'm Not Getting Too Far From The Boat Just To Have To Paddle Back! lol

Re: 18 ft bass boat top speed? - 06/16/13 05:17 PM

My boats longer than this thread allows but I have been 74 with a stock 150 Optimax in just the right conditions. Usually its higher 60's.

I've been trying to find a better motor so I don't have to worry about how fast it will go. With a 225 Pro Max JSRE I went 88 the first time out with the wrong prop and the wrong lower unit.

Too fast for me so I sold it and now have a 200XS which should put me somewhere in the mid 80's and sipping fuel.

My two 18 foot Rangers with 150's were in the high 50's to low 60's.

My 13 skeeter zx190 with an hpdi 175 full of fuel, tackle and 400lbs. Worth of me and a buddy has seen 63mph at 5400rpm gps. Still a little bit left, but not much. It would probably do 65-66 solo and light

My 86 tidecraft would run 72 GPS with a stock 150hp. I sold my 150 and now have a 125 for better gas mileage. I can now get around 50.

Prop slip calculators will show the "real" speeds possible. Some claimed boatspeeds you see on the internet or simply not attainable due to physics. Can't happen no matter if your boat is made out of balsa wood and you weigh 34lbs. A lot of guys have a friend or a friend or a buddy with a special hull etc but reality often disproves the claims. Hell some of the go fast bass boats are not hitting the speeds that popular mass produced brand owners will claim.

I had a Laser LTV bassboat back in the early 90's with a 200 merc that was faster than my Bullet or the Allison I have now. It was an 18' death trap that would do over 90 if you had the nerve. I don't know where it is now, but I hope everyone lived to tell about it.

Anyone that attended the recent Miami Boat Show could have watched a 19'2" ALLISON XB with the NEW 150 Mercury Four Stroke exceed 75. A person involved with this project told me they were pulling a 26 or 28 prop WOT at 77 MPH. Google: allison bass boat with 150 mercury four stroke.

You might check with Steve at Steve's Prop shop for help it sounds a bit off I would think 50+ should be achievable. I had a 16' Dyna Trak with an Evinurde 115 and it would hit 56mph.

Until I talked Ronnie into putting a 2 liter F1 motor on it...
Then it ran 85mph with 2 people in it and had to get out of it because that thing was SCARY!!! I know it's a 260 cowling but it was an F1 motor inside...
