Music while you fish?

Music while you fish? - 06/19/12 11:20 PM

I Know this is a total newbie question...anyone listen to music? I fish by myself a lot and am just curious.

I remember always whispering when we were fishing growing up.

Maybe that was my dad's way of getting us to be quiet!

Re: Music while you fish? - 06/19/12 11:23 PM

I remember Bill Dance saying one time that music won't scare fish like a loud bang like a paddle or something banging on the side of the boat will. I like to play music on my iPod and I don't see how that could hurt anything.

I play tunes while fishing. Rock, country. Can't catch em no matter what, so might as well enjoy some good music.

It's a great way to wake up and sometimes even get things going during an all nighter.

The wife just bought me a radio and speakers for the boat, but I'm unsure about where to mount the speakers and I don't want to cut holes in my boat to mount them.

Never....I like the peace and quiet much better. I can get plenty of radio noise when i'm off the lake.

Sometimes a little music is good but most of the time I prefer just the peace and quiet.

cant fish w/o my Ipod. That being said after the morning topwater bite dies off. I like to hear that splash when the frog gets nailed. Pop/top 40 junk makes a good beat for working that jig lol

Re: Music while you fish? - 06/20/12 01:10 AM

I love loud music on the way to the lake or at the ramp, but it stops there. Mother nature is good enough for me, unless I'm on the vine, then I'm subject to whatever the wakeboarders like.

Re: Music while you fish? - 06/20/12 01:37 AM

it is very nice to have, installed one on my skeeter. Don't use it all the time but sometimes its nice to have.

Re: Music while you fish? - 06/20/12 01:37 AM

No music for me, enjoy the peace and quiet (as long as it lasts anyways) and work on clearing m head. Fish alone a good bit for this very reason.

Can't help but listen when the wake boarders go by....

Other than that, I turn all the noise off and enjoy nature.

I tried this in my dad's boat because it came with a stereo system. It seemed like when I turned the music on it turned the fish off......

Most of the time no, but sometimes it brings back the morale.

Re: Music while you fish? - 06/20/12 04:30 AM

I tore the fancy-assed Sony & Fusion speakers outta my boat when I bought it. I'm overloaded with input on a daily basis & when I get out I want to hear nothing but birds singin & reels screamin... At this point anyway. If I start spending more time on the water than in front of a computer I may want some tunes on the water. Merle, George, Metallica & Vai....

I put the headphones in on long boat runs in tournaments to get the blood flowing a little bit and to stay in the zone!

I usually mix it up with a little bit of rock some rap and dubstep. I like it quite while i'm fishing tho.

Bass love rock and roll - sometimes they don't start biting until I turn it on - I listen to it all the time and it's never turned them off - I don't play it loud, but I have it on all the time except when I fish a tournament.

Posted By: D Thomas

Re: Music while you fish? - 06/20/12 01:33 PM

Rarely listen to music on the boat except for when I'm headed back to the ramp or scouting, but it's nice to be able to hear the Cowboys or Rangers game.

So true about the vine. However, one guy was blasting Eddie Money's "Take me home tonight" and I would lie if I said I didn't dig it.

Asked this question awhile back and got no responses, this thread seems to be a good spot to bring it back up.

I want to put a marine radio in my boat to listen to TX Ranger games and football come Fall. But I'd hate to spend a few hundred dollars to do it, get out on the middle of Lake Fork, and have no reception.

Any advice on how the reception is or alternatives to am/fm reception?

I do everything through my phone. MLB and NFL networks apps. Digital broadcast so reception is fine if you get phone reception.

Re: Music while you fish? - 06/21/12 02:06 AM

Maybe if I get better at actually catching fish I wont feel like music. Right now there is a looooooooooooooooooooong time between fish in the boat.

I do like the crickets (locusts this time of year) and waves come sunset, can really take your mind off things.

I looked at MLB and NFL apps and they were pretty pricey, especially to get both AND not have music. Not to mention data usage.

Re: Music while you fish? - 06/21/12 02:50 AM

Justin, do you have AT&T? I now get 4g pretty much all over the lake at Fork. I haven't hit a spot yet where I can't stream DFW area radio but there could still be some dead areas.

Posted By: Justin Wilcox

Re: Music while you fish? - 06/21/12 03:26 AM

Have Verizon, reception is pretty good for phone calls. 3G though so not sure how streaming radio will do, guess I can try it out on the phone before I mess with putting the radio in.

Finally, I thought nobody was gonna put REK - 5lb bass on there.

I caught a 13.1 lb bass this year while listening to BB king on SAT Radio, which I listen to all the time. I don't catch as many listening to heavy metal.but I think I can't get the rithym so I over work the bait, not good.
