Best Baitcaster for around $100?

I am looking for a good baitcaster for around $100. Seems like all of the reviews on reels in that range have about half that really love a reel and the other half hate it. Any suggestions?

save up a few more bucks and get a revo sx for the new price of $129.

Who sales the Revo SX for $129? Academy has it listed for $169. Bass Pro doesnt have the SX listed at all.

Agree'd on the Lews. Very good reel & very good company. I have a Lews. My nephew was carrying it to the boat and dropped it. I called Lews and was upfront with the service manager about what happened, he sent me the whole palm side (which includes magnetic brake) at no charge and I had it within 3 days. That's customer service you don't find anywhere anymore. That alone says alot!

Daiwa Laguna is $59.99 and the Daiwa Exceler is just a tad over that. I have a few of both and really like them.

Catch a sale and pic up a johny morris at bass pro or cabelas. Stay away from quantum. They fall apart all the time

Shimano Calcutta 200!! There is one on Craigslist that looks practically Brand new for $100. I have had one for years and never even serviced it. Its been in saltwater and fresh and has land 1000's of bass and still going strong! New they are $199.00. Shimano Baitcasters are top of the line.

That's just ignorant. Clean & grease your stuff and that won't happen.

I have two Energys and an Escalade and have had great success with them. I'm talking over 1,000 bass.

You can't go wrong with most reels in that price point. Just stick with what you know. I use quantum because I know them like the back of my hand.

Most reviews on here are guys honest opinions based on what they know and have success with. That or they are being paid to sell something.

i have a quantum that my dad gave me when i was 13. heavily used and never cleaned when i was a teenager. then left pretty much unused from 19-22, now i'm 29 and have been using it heavily again. it's an old black one with oversized gears in 5.1-1 ratio. used to use it for everything, now it's a cranking horse and sometimes throw spooks and poppers on it. needless to say this time of year is it's busiest.

these days i think the black max is the best value reel there is.

Bought my girl 5 quantum kvd reels and she fishes them just as hard as I do and they have never gave her any problems. Put all of them on American rodsmiths titanium tournament series rods and they are light. I even pick them up and throw them on occasions. They are good reels for the money. I bought a revo sx a couple months ago and put it on one of my H3 titanium ultras and it felt like I was palming a brick. Revo sex's are just a little to heavy for my taste. Just my opinion.

Just bought a Shimano curado and a Callista and they are awesome! Just been practicing in the back yard and they are smooth! i have been stuck on shimano going on 10 years now and the first one i bought i still use everytime on the lake!.Its also been in saltwater. And i have never needed to service it even though i probably should soon just for good measure.

Revo S or SX depending on the sale.

Yup. Best $79.00 I have ever spent on a piece of fishing gear. When they go on sale you can buy 3 for the price of some other reels. Or 2 and have bread left over for a good rod.

Cabella's doesn't carry the JM line. I have a 20+ year old Quantun that still works fine. You may have gotten a lemon but i can assure you they work fine. As well do the JM reels at BPS.

lews are the best reels i've ever owned.

I can't believe the Citicas aren't getting any love on here. Just trust me: go to ebay and get a Citica 200E for around $75 and you'll thanks me later. Very smooth, good strong drag, and by far the best braking system of any reel I've ever used. I've popped the side off and adjusted the brakes while my lure was in the water before. I used to really like my Revo SX reels until I tried the Citicas, and I've since switched all but one of my reels over. Soon enough, I'll have all of them switched.

+4 - I have 4 Pro Qualifiers - great reels for the price - they go on sale two or three times a year for 80 bucks and I buy another one - have yet to have any problems with one.

An E or G Citica would be a great reel that will last for years. If you happen to need a part 10 years down the line, you are out of luck with most of the other reels mentioned.
