Anyone fished at these lakes down by Houston. Is it worth going?

I used to be a member and guide there. It was tremendous back in the early nineties. Then kind of went downhill but has been under new ownership for quite a few years, now. Haven't been down there in about 15 years, so can't speak to how it is now. But it was a great facility and a great set-up, then.

I was asking the same question last week.

From what Ive heard, both Danbury and 7 Lakes are the best and well worth the membership money.

Fouz, did you know a guy named Paul Dohr that fished there?

Sorry, I wasn't truing to steal your post. I did mean to say that Lakes of Danbury was the only place I remember fishing that you could catch fish on top waters before, during and after a hard frontal passage. Sometimes, it was incredible.

Sounds familiar Hawg, but that was a long time ago. Don't remember very many of the member's names any longer. And +1 on Topwater. Randy Henderson (who used to guide at R. Roberts) and me caught over 100 fish in a day on spooks one June day with 26 of them over 7 pounds!

In another lifetime....I worked as the biologist at LOD and helped get it up and operating. Back in '85 and '86 into '91. Mike Wood was the manager then and it was owned by the Zwahr family. Back "in the day" it was an awesome fishing hole.

It kinda sagged, but has undergone a positive transformation these last several years under the ownership/stewardship of Jim Thompson. I work with Jim sometimes and he's a great guy, keeps the place in top notch shape. I'd sure give it a good look see.

I used to be a memeber there about 7 years ago and it was GREAT for numbers, but never really caught any giants, maybe 7 pounds was the largest.

Jim is a great guy and runs a great program. I really enjoyed it and if you are looking for a turnkey operation this is it. I was there when he built the cabins and that was it for me! Fish all day, stay on site and do it all over again the next day.

The boats were in good shape then, batteries always hot...It was nice some times to just show up, rods in hand and leave all the boat stuff to someone else.

BTW...If you go look at the place ask Jim to throw out a handful of fish pellets in the boathouse behind the office...I saw the biggest "Bream" I have ever seen in my life and some really nice bass come up and crash them in the slip...It was an awesome sight!
