You just put a smap swivel on them and clip them to the line. It's a good cheap quick first option. If you can't get them with that, I'd go with the chains and rope type.
I have been using the one from Academy that kind of looks like a crank bait with chains hanging off of it and the wire hoop. I put it on a camping close line and it works great. I have saved LOTS of baits with it. Normaly the wire hoop slips over the bait and knocks it off what ever it is hung on. The chains dont usually do much but occasionaly catch the hooks and you can tear it loose. I have actually gotten bushed with a dd-22 at Amistad in about 15 feet of water with a 3 lbr and have used the lureknocker to get it free and get the fish!
I still use the David Fritts Gripper Lure retriever tied on with landscape heavey twine spooled on an old abu5500c3 and pistol-grip rod handle. Works great.
I have a large safety pin that has a 1/4 pound weight attached. The pin is tied to an old reel that is loaded with 65 pound braid. This has worked well so far. Bill

Very good cheap one that works but if you need a bit more look at this one. I throw big baits and for me it's worth it to have a couple different types. They all have saved me money.
