Re: Weather.com vs accuweather.com - 05/14/10 09:53 PM

I skipped out on fishing due to weather.com reporting winds at 25-30 with 40 mph gust one day. It said the same thing the next day but I never really felt these winds either day so I went out to Grapevine lake the 2nd day and it was calmer out there then the last two times I went when the weather was "Good".

Edit: Looks like you would be good to go out there for the first half of the day

I like looking up local TV channel websites for the weather. As weather.com has to deal with the nationwide weather and is off a lot.

NOAA is the best, this is what the coast guard uses... good enough for the coast guard... good enough for me!

National oceanic and atmospheric administration.

A great app if you have an iphone is WeatherBug....I paid .99 cents for the 'elite'....but it gives good forcasts and it has flash type annimation on their radar map. The radar image isn't stagnate....it moves so you can see the direction the weather is coming from.

For some reason weather.com is giving 30% all day where I am going. weather.gove is saying 50%. I like the 30% odd better!

None of them really know what's going on. I've seen different forecasts for a Sauturday from Weather.com, Accuweather and Wunderground.

Fishing My-Cast by Garmin, it has radar, forecast, tide chart, severe weather alerts and the fishing tools have activity forecast(feeding times). I think its the best one for fishing. I like the severe weather tool because it shows the lighting strikes in your area for the last 45min. You can check the rader and if you have rain coming you can check the lighting strikes to see if you need to haul butt to the ramp!!!!

Re: Weather.com vs accuweather.com - 05/15/10 11:53 PM

I have found accuweather to be the most accurate when you look at the whole day. What you have to do is select "extended forecast" which covers 3 days, pick your day, and then select hourly forecast. You may see, for example, that the wind will be 15-20 mph in the afternoon and evening, but only 5-10 between daylight and noon. The TV station may say wind will be 15-20, which is true, but for a certain block of hours it may be more or less. It has worked well for me.

I use Intellicast and it's great. I get a forecast every morning about 3:30 am. It's got active radar maps and everything you could possibly want to know bout the weather.

Re: Weather.com vs accuweather.com - 05/16/10 04:26 PM

When accuweather went to the new format I cut them loose because I can find the answer to the weather a lot faster and just as accurate on others.
