Toledo Bend Color Choice - Early March

My son and I are going the first week of March. I heard red traps are a good choice (look like a crawfish?). Is that true? What color plastics are good?

Red and Gold traps have been very successful for me @ Toledo in the past during the early spring.

As far as plastics go i have done well with most all of the green hues (watermelons-green pumpkins) especially one with some red in it.
Black/blue- junebug have always been good colors @ Toledo also.

Red Traps are good. Black w/ Blue flek 10" worm T-rigged with a 15/16th ounce weight is good in about 15 ft deep road beds off the river. Drag um', do not pump them. These fish will spawn in water as deep as 15'.

With the way the water is this year, the red bite will probably last quite a bit later than usual. White/Chart and Rayburn Red Texas 2-Step spinnerbaits, Talon White/Chart with candy chartreuse blades, and Talon Texas Craw spinnerbaits at Toledo Tackle are local favorites. Not trying to pump my own stuff, but these baits really do rule the Bend. Bluegill colors are also killer when the fish are shallow and just waiting for the right conditions to spawn. I would stick with darker colored plastics this spring because the water is dingy in so many areas. Brush Hogs and Beavers in watermelon/red, green pumpkin, blue swirl, Big Texan and California 420 are all very popular. You should also have some Senkos along in black/blue or one of the darker watermelon or pumpkin colors. Good jig colors are Watermelon/Red, P,B&J, Black/Blue and Black/Brown/Red.
