They were fortunate for sure.

Had nothing to do with live scope. The "at fault" boat just wasn't paying attention where he was going.

Nothing to do with FFS

That is the first time I have ever seen someone crappie fishing with a baitcaster. I use baitcasters all the time but have never done so when I have crappie fished. I only use spinning gear for that because you are using such a light weight bait, spinning gear makes is much easier to do.

Re: Live Scope fishing boat/collision - 03/31/24 02:43 PM

The guy in the red boat was probably using his GPS mapping to track his way back to a spot or a boat ramp. That is the only thing I don't like about having that capability. I have a tendency to look at the mapping screen more than I need to, we've all done it. Another thing you have to watch out for is taking off or coming off plane with other boats around doing the same thing. When you've got the bow in the air It's a gamble. They guy in front of you realizes he don't have all his rods strapped down or trolling motor down or something like that and shuts it down after coming on plane. You just nailed the throttle and you pop up just in time to see yourself collide with them. I've never had that happen to me but there have been a few times I hadn't listened to my gut feeling it might have gotten ugly quick.

The boater is a moron. It's just not that hard to drive a boat without hitting another boat, an island, a dam etc.

I know some really stupid people that have managed to not hit stuff. I guess there could be people who are more stupid but it's hard to imagine it. I was sitting on some rock piles on granbury last summer. They are surrounded by hazard buoys and I had a morons in a ski boat do similar, I was waving and yelling. He damn near hit me, how he didn't knock his lower off on the Rock pile that was nearly out of the water is a miracle. As he passed withing about 10 feet of the front of my boat I was giving him as big a middle finger as I could. He comes back and I show the old man and his son what they just ran over and they couldn't believe it. Then I mention that it's probably not the best plan to run on pad right off another boat withing arms distance..... I also threw in a couple mfrs etc.... he thought the hazard buoys were channel markers..... he had just bought the boat the day before. He said he was gonna pray for me lol. I told him to return the boat before he killed someone or himself. So yes there are a few real dummys out there.

Oh there was more, I covered the whole alphabet and if the guy wasn't 75 I would have suggested heading to the ramp. And there was no fog and middle of day. He thought I was waving at him and waved back till he only saw one finger .....

I use 60 lb braid, 1/4 oz jig heads with 3" walleye grubs.

When I get snagged I just rip my jig out of the tree and bend the hook back.

I used to think the same as you until I was invited on a trip several years ago. My buddy told me to leave my spinning rods at home and bring a bass rod with braid. Up until that day that was the most crappie I've ever seen caught in a single trip.

The guy operating the vessel that collided with the other vessel appears to be a mature gentleman with a lot of years of wisdom and knowledge.

Wonder how he ran into a random boat in the middle of the lake?

So you are saying his age and reduced ability to operate a vessel could have contributed? very interesting

I think the guy that ran over over the other boat and ended up on top of it in Florida, was also an experienced gentleman with years of skill and knowledge.

Could be just plain old not paying attention.

Lots of stuff in boats to be messing with and distracting while traveling the lake. Also the way it’s mounted, some of it restricts the drivers view. On Conroe there were many times when you knew the boat coming at you didn’t see you. Got close enough a few times to just about jump in the lake.
