Allatoona Lake, GA - 08/31/22 03:08 AM

In Georgia on business and am staying a few miles from Allatoona Lake and the Etowah River. Anybody on here have any experience fishing these bodies of water? The allure of Coosa Spots has me all verklempt...

years ago I use to live in Kennesaw Ga, about 10 minutes from the lake, so I fished it a lot. We use to refer to the lake as "the dead sea" . it wasn't a good lake for large mouth bass but if you want to get rattled by short biting, quick striking, spots you'll have a good time. lol

Fished Allatoona and Lanier quite a bit when I lived in Atlanta. If a quick trip and new to lake I'd take two baits. A 1/8 or 1/4 ounce shakey head (SpotStickers are the brand we used when I was there) with a green pumpkin Zoom Finesse Worm. Dip the tail in chartreuse. Second lure would be a Sammy topwater (like a spook) in Blue Back Herring color. And don't be afraid to throw the Sammy in 20+ feet of water...those spots will come out of the brush tops in 20-30ft of water and crush it. Two backup baits would be a twin tail grub on a jig head and a Zoom Fluke Junior on a FishHead spin. I used white color for the fluke.

Allatoona is TERRIBLE.

If you wanted to go to Oconee, Eufaula, or even West Point I’d be happy to take you out.

Eufaula has pretty decent Spots if that is what you’re after. This was Sunday

Damn. If I had the time, I'd hit you up. As it is, I'm balls deep in work until 6pm every night. Allatoona is across the street from my office, only reason I was wondering about it. Went to one of the ramps today and saw a ton of 12-14" spots just cruising in the current... next time I'm here, I'll try to make time. Thanks, E8C.

No worries. Hit me up if anything changes. I can fish any day of the week.

Allatoona was my home lake until we moved to DFW. Its a deep, mountain lake with pretty clear water.. say 4-5' of clarity. Are there spots in there, yes, but not Coosa River quality spots.. its not a power generating river/lake so current doesn't drive the bus. It does have some quality hybrids and Striper.. which are a lot of fun to catch. No blue back herring in 'Toona, so its all shad and blue gill for forage. The comment about the shakey head was spot on, I would add drop shot to that as well. Morning Dawn Roboworms worked really well.
The area around the dam is pretty deep.. lots of rock walls and rock points that go from 0 to 60' in a hurry.
Good luck.

Good for spots and big striper.
