I’d say mid to upper 60’s in cool water.

225, 250, 275 and those aren’t motor horsepowers.

Only been out in it twice, and she ain’t made for speed. I could go 75 in my I-class but this one will do prolly 70-71 by myself. Solid as a rock, though.

I dunno Mark. My Legend 211 Yam 250 SHO runs 74 with me solo and 68 loaded with 2 guys to fish. Add another 250# and 65 is gonna be all she wrote for my boat.

I believe the FX20 is a faster hull than my Legend but still with 750# of folks and tackle 65-67 is about all you're gonna get with a 250.

Sounds like you need to play with the jackplate some. My 13 FX20 loaded down with just me would cruise 74-75.

Sounds about right Okie. I have a 2018 21 FXle and I can get around 72 to 74 with just me. So mid to upper 60's with an additional 500 lbs. sounds about right.

Went to Lew today with little more than quarter of a tank of gas and turned 6100 rpm's with top end speed at 75.8mph. I think the motor is set just right on the jackplate. I'm not used to a rooster tail being as high as it was, but with that speed I'm not too concerned. I've always been told that a tall rooster tail means that you are losing some top end speed. Although, I'm happy with where it's at.

Happy Holidays, OT!

Not yet, but I'm still figuring things out with this ride. Biggest problem so far it's Aggie colors. May have to get my hot orange paint out for Friday night game. Red has got a say in this, too, before I paint a Mike Gundy mullet on the side....it's half his.

You're rooster tail should be no higher than the engine cowl for a good fishing and load carrying set-up. Anymore than that and you're wasting prop energy to slip.

Re: How fast should a 2018 FX20LE w/ run? - 01/02/20 12:24 PM

My 2018 with hydraulic jack plate runs 68-72. That’s with a ton of gear and two 300 pounders in it. With cool air and warm water my sho runs real strong and I can bump the 6000 rpm mark. But in the summer I can barely hit the 5900 rpms Before I loaded it down with humans and gear I got right under 75 mph out of her In Perfect conditions.

I had a 2012 FX 20 w/250 SHO. With myself and two others, full of tackle. Two 8' PP's and half tanks of gas, we ran 75 mph on Falcon in the heat of summer. By myself in cooler weather, I'd easily hit 78. Prop was a Yammy TI 25 pitch tuned and cupped by Steve Glenn. If you don't believe that, you can ask Charlie Haralson. He was driving it that day.

Yes, it did. It wouldn’t trim up any more and I still had decent water pressure. Should I avoid going over 6000rpms cause red line starts there? That speed was definitely maxxed out.

Tom,
The rev limiter is set at 6,250 on the 250 SHOs. You are good at 6000. That motor will live forever at 5500-6000. I fished with a guide in Fla that had over 3000 hours on his SHO. He said all he did was change the water pump impeller, oil, and gearcase lube every six months (100 hrs) and drove it like he stole it.

Re: How fast should a 2018 FX20LE w/ run? - 01/04/20 01:11 AM

Does the rev limiter make it cut out or anything or act any different? All I had at max speed was trim would not go any higher and I couldn’t get it any more than 6100 rpms. Thanks!

Tom, I did some research and found the rev limiter on the Yam 250 SHO is 6,250. It is pretty subtle when you hit it, kind of feels like you back off on the throttle for a second then it will go right back. It's not like the engine shuts down on you at full throttle but you can feel it pull back slightly.

The rev limiter is designed to protect the motor if you are running thru rough seas and the prop is clearing the water at WOT. It keeps the motor from over revving in those cases. If you watch an offshore race, the prop is out of the water 20% of the time. Without the electronic limiter the RPM's would go thru the roof when the prop broke the surface.
