In your opinion/experience which 2 or 3 Texas parks would you pick for bass fishing?

Sandlin, Tawakoni, Rusk and Huntsville. Tawakoni has a few close areas that fish real good. Sandlin is a real good lake with close access to two other lakes. Huntsville is a little bit of a drive but pretty. Haven’t been to Rusk in a while. Almost forgot Tyler is a good park.

Tyler is a great one for a yak, as is Sandlin for the proximity to Monticello. Tyler has some giants in it but the water is so clear it took me a while to get used to.

Kayak = Caddo!
Cleburne Would be another decent option that hasn’t been mentioned and close to the metro.
I’ve seen the signs to Purtis Creek and wondered about that one...

Purtis Creek looks to be kayak-friendly. Best thing is, no wake boats or jet fleas

You're right, one old picture negates any current knowledge I have of the lake.

What about Inks, the park looks great but is the fishing worth the trip?

Huntsville state park is an awesome lake to Kayak on. Just try to go on a weekday if at all possible if you can only make it on the weekends get their early and fish the east side of the lake. By 11 o clock you won't want to fish that side because of all the paddle boaters. The west side should be good mid day to the afternoon. Bring your favorite frog, a senko, and a weedless swimbait. You have the potential of catching a nice one on any given day.

Little lake inside Meridian State Park is where the state releases all the Share-A-Lunkers!

For sure on my list. The state park looks like it has a small pocket, but are there other launch points near the main lake?

Yes, Shady Glade and Johnson’s, Also a launch near the bridges on the LA side, but not as scenic. Many of the paddling trails in Texas come into and out of the “A” lane in Karnak/Uncertain.

Re: State Parks & Bass Fishing - 06/28/18 05:29 PM

Upper “main lake”? Put in @ Uncertain Tx. Put in your yak @ Shady Glade http://shadygladeresort.com/ or Johnson’s http://johnsonsranch.net/ Decent places to camp, rent cabin and eat https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g56800-Uncertain_Texas.html (Shady Glade breakfast and Big Pines Lodge for lunch or dinner thumb ). Main lake around Uncertain is scenic and more “kayak friendly” than lower main lake because of enough trails off main boat lanes.

Inks is one of the nicest places to camp in the state and because of that it is busy, make a reservation. The fishing is pretty good too, it has smallmouth which are fun to catch.

Purtis Creek is perfect for Kayak fishing and the camping is nice too!

If you like remote, hard to beat is a multi day trip down the Devils or Pecos.

You can put in at shady glade or Johnson’s very easily. It’s a 3 mile drive from the state park.
