Just arrived from Tackle Warehouse - What size hooks would you use to rig them? - 06/04/18 12:07 AM

I just received these from Tackle Warehouse.

One is a 9 inch Big Hammer and the other is 6.5" Luck E Strike Bass Magic.

These are my first paddle tail swimbaits to try out.

I have fished with 7inch flukes on a 5/0 offset worm hook.

What size and style hooks would you used for these?

Regards,

Sounds small. I throw mag flukes on a 6 or 7/0 ewg monster. That should be adequate for either of those as well. Might be a hair big for the luck-e probably do a 6 if you wanted one for both.

WackySenko,

Do you use a screw in style hook?

Owner Beast EWG screwlock swimbait hook for all my soft plastic swimbaits regardless of size or style. Personally I agree with above sizes that a 6/0 for the 6-1/2" Bassmajic and an 8/0 for the Big Hammer. A 9-1/2" swimbait is usually a big heavy bodied bait that might normally require even a 10/0 Beast swimbait hook but that Big Hammer actually looks like a smaller bodied lighter swimbait. Also I like a belly weighted swimbait hook almost always and for every application. Helps ALL brand swimbaits swim upright. Match the weight to the depth you are targeting. Very light 1/16-1/4oz on swallow weedy shoreline cover to much heavier belly weighted hooks for deeper off shore presentations. Invest a little and get various sizes and weights in your Beast swimbait hooks so you can change and adapt to different sized baits to different depths.

I would add my recommendation to the Owner Beast EWG screwlock hook.

I prefer at least 7/0 with baits that large myself.

Have any of you ever used lead tape to add weight to a hook for soft swim baits?

Yes but not much anymore since weighted swimbait hooks came out. I'll use suspen-strips when I'm in between weights on the hook size I need.

My 6/0 and 8/0 Shimmer Swimmers will work like a champ on them.
