What are you guys using for the big divers? The 15-25 footers?

Re: Deep Diver Rod/Reel - 05/27/18 06:22 PM

I am using a Dobyns 805 CB RM rod with an old 200B5 for a reel. WORKS PERFECT for the big bruizers. I have been using this setup for quite a while and LOVE it for the big deep diving CBs. They are BUILT for it and work very well. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe an dgood luck.

OH, I have 14 of the old Shimano 200B reels and they still work like a charm..

That's what I throw and I fish it almost every time I'm on the water. I don't whip the 10XD's on that rod but I do chunk it out there pretty good. If I felt like I had to muscle it as hard as I can throw it I throw it on a Dobyn's 795 swimbait rod. Doesn't happen often but I have in the past.

I use 10 and 12# test on my cranking reels. In open water that is. I use 15 or 17 on heavy cover lakes. Just a better feeling for me, knowing I can normally get them back. I use McCoys Mean Green for the stretch, the lack of memory and the sheer strength of the line. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck. Sorry I didn't enclose that to begin with.

Check out Fred’s Crank Launcher by Irod. I have had several deep crank rods, Dobyns, power tackle, KVD, this rod is my favorite. Can throw 10xd down to 6xd a mile and is super light but tons of power. Check them out!

That rod is awesome. You can throw a lure as light as a 5XD on it too.

I haven’t lost one yet with these. You can make them yourself easy if you pour lead.

$5 retriever from academy. Mine has paid for itself 1000X. I tied it to a marker buoy in case I drop it.

Re: Deep Diver Rod/Reel - 05/28/18 04:07 PM

Jobe99,

I like the McCoys line a lot better. It does not have the memory that the CXX does and it is a smaller diameter than it, or it was when I first started using McCoys. I have had line on a reel for 8 years now and it is still good. I have to pull it and stretch it a little bit, but still good line and strong. Hope this helps. And no, I am not sponsored b y McCoys, neither. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Here is a link I put on the Lions page back last year. Scroll up to the 2nd one to read my review of it.
