Is Shakey Head a dying technique ??

Is Shakey Head a dying technique ?? - 05/08/18 08:06 PM

I see lots of articles and people posting what they caught their fish on,
and it seems like Drop shot, Wackey rig, top water, crank baits and Texas rigs dominate
the conversation.

So I ask, does anybody use Shakey head anymore ?
Is it just not effective technique??

I used the Shakey heads with plastic crawls.

I still use a shaker head as well as all the others mentioned. They are all tools that can be used depending upon conditions and situations at hand.

Dont tell the Fork guys the shakey head is a dying technique. That bait probably accounts for more money in tournament winnings out there than anything else.

Up until a week ago, it’s been extremely windy—difficult to fish a shaky head in those conditions if you don’t have poles/talons/spot lock

More checks cashed in flw on Shakey head than anything else I bet

Or maybe it's so good that nobody is talking about it. But really, of course they still catch fish. I think the shakey head is a great bait that catches them year round in all conditions.

Senko or a trick worm on a Spot remover jig head = $$$$

Yep, I guess my watermelon red flukes will have to find a new home. No shakey heads here. I change top waters, worms, jigs, cranks all day long, but not my shakey head set up.

I have one tied on 90% of the time.

I have one tied on 100% of the time in my boat. Actually have 2 different set ups, 1 - Baitcast/MH rod for 3/8oz & above, and 1 - Spinning/Med rod for 1/4oz and below.

Re: Is Shakey Head a dying technique ?? - 05/08/18 09:35 PM

I bought another spinning rod so I could have one tied on all the time.

Good technique for tough to catch fish. Also a GREAT technique for fishing deep schools that will not come up for a topwater or spinnerbait. Nothing wrong with the technique or lure choices, just not as popular as it once was. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Works good on PK too. Shakey head with a baby Grande Bass is a killer bait.

I always have a c rig on deck. 100% of every trip to the lake I have one out. I may not use it every time, but I plan on using it every time. I also have a 4" senko on a wacky rig out every time. And my flipping stick.

But then again we are all fishermen so who actually tells the truth about how they caught all their fish. fish If you have a lure sponsor then that is always what you caught them on during the tournament. Just saying! Kinda like some of the tournaments won at Rayburn and Toledo they say they caught them flipping bushes but you saw them running brushpiles in 20-30 feet of water and all of their fish are laid over on their side needing to be fizzed.

Re: Is Shakey Head a dying technique ?? - 05/09/18 03:02 AM

we always just called it a "jiggy worm" and its worked since the '60s Al Linder used this as a kid, used to rig it with the hook exposed and tried to hang it up in the thick grass and shake it.

Take a kid out and set him up with the exposed hook. This is idiot proof because you don't worry about having it t rigged perfect and let them find out for you if its workin good while you throw something else. Kids can even tie there own jigs on with a half dozen good granny knots.

For bass fishin fathers this is the number one kid rig with worms, little swim baits, craws, tubes, flukes, live bait...

How long have people fished a simple jig anyway? Geez, now my head hurts

The shakyhead will never die out.

I don't fish them very often on light tackle, but the majority of my fish over 5 pounds in the last two years have been on one I have made by a friend. 1/4 or 3/8 oz rattling shaky head with a 4/0 EWG hook and a bigger soft plastic fished in deep structure.

What kind of baits do you put on the shaky head? Is is strictly finesse type worms or do you use creature type baits and regular worms? I have some, never used them and want to add to my arsenal.

Absolutely agree, I can be on a nice group of fish on a Dropshot, switch to a SH with a baby snake and catch the biggest fish in the school.. cheers

Seems to me that the Ned Rig and the Flick Shake have taken some of the focus off of the traditional Shakey Head technique.

between the shaken head a wobble head, The TRig is losing rod space on my deck. For deeper than 10ft, I will choose shakey head.

I Fish it all the time. Its my go to. Sixth Sense makes some of the best I have found. They got some bigger sizes with 6 and 7 size hooks. Some of the biggest shaky heads I have found. Good for them deep summer bass and 10 to 12in worms.
